The lack of original furniture is bothering and the staircase is in gake marble but after all it is very much worth a visit!

What a beautiful baroque castle! So very extravagant! We took a tour in English and it lasted around 1 hour. You can't take photos inside so I took photos of the postal cards I bought to post them here. I though it was really worth the visit. The gardens in November were not very interesting so I will have to return in the summer! The parking is large and plentiful and the little town of Brühl is very pretty. Well worth a stop.

The inner design is beautiful specifically the staircase section. Don't get fooled be the exterior. BUT! there is no English tour ( you must go with a tour) there is a very much useless audio guide with dismal information and you have to stand in group and listen to someone talking in language you can't decipher. A bit of a torture. The staff are not friendly and rude sometimes.

We had an English tour guide to the Schloss Augustusburg so perhaps the previous reviewer was just unlucky. Well worth visiting but you must also make time to go to the hunting lodge in the grounds, Falkenlust, small but perfectly formed, an absolutely beautiful gem and you can walk around with an A4 laminated guide, so no worries about finding an English speaking guide.

Also the gardens are beautiful with water features and colourful bedding so you can spend some time there.

We went as a day trip from Köln.
It's a 20 minute trip and the train station is in front of the palace.
Beware of the opening times because the palace closes at noon and re opens at 1:30 pm.
You can only visit with a guided tour and its in German.
You can get headsets in different languages to follow along.
The only drawback is that the guide would talk longer in German and after a while it would get tiring because the English explanation was shorter. You had to stand patiently waiting for the guide to finish in German before being allowed into the next room. He would respond to questions in German and never addressed the international tourists.
You are not allowed to touch anything or take pictures inside the building.
Even so the building is absolutely beautiful with an amazing grand staircase, wish we could have explored it at our leisure though. We bought the €5 book to learn a little more of the history.
