This is one of the Jyotirlings in India. It is located in Ujjain. They have good systems in place. You can make booking online. Even if you go on the spot and if you want to to purchase VIP pass you can simply purchase on the spot. They also have locker facility -without any cost- to keep your belongings.

If you wish to perform pooja etc. there are several approved individuals whom you will find inside temple.

Only problem we had was with food. There aren't any good place to eat within vicinity.

This place will be very dirty during rains.

Need to book either online or at the counter one day prior to attend the Bhasma Arti. One has to stand in queue from 0300 Hrs. To go inside (Garbh) for offering your prayer to Shivaling before Bhasma Arti, wearing a Dhoti for men & kids and Saree for Ladies is must. Otherwise after the Bhasma Arti one can go inside the Garbh to offer the prayer to Shivaling. A photo ID which was used during booking online reservation is verified before entering the premises to attend the Bhasma Arti. Photography is not allowed. However, there are professional photographers who will take your pic and give it to you in 5 minutes and charges is Rs 20 per copy. A live video of Bhasma Arti is also broadcast and can be seen from TV screens in the mandir premises.

this place is one of the 12 jyotirlingas or one of the most sacred shrines of lord shiva. we visited the temple in august in the holy month of sawan. Although this place is crowded in this month but the temple authorities have managed the facility so well that one does not see the rush or feel lost in the way.I was with my grandmother who uses a stick to walk,so were shown a shortcut by the temple police. The place is accessible for specially abled people and elderly who have difficulty in walking.
By gods grace when we entered the temple area aarti started and we had a wonderful darshan of the shrine.
If you are planning to visit the shrine do see the bhasm aarti(4:00 am) it is unique aarti, one of its kind in which lord shiva is covered with bhasam and aarti is done with full nagada and damru. At one point they close the lights and u could see the eyes of shiva moving(although it could be the reflection). But one would surely enjoy the beauty of the aarti. it brings peace in mind.
If you want to stay, then there are a lot of hotels nearby but most economic is the mandir hotel.Although even the best rooms are not good enough but it is next to the temple and if one want to see the bhasm aarti than one should stay here as you could buy a slip for shortcut entry for the aarti and could stand in the garbh grah for the pooja before aarti and one will not have to stand in normal lines which is usually long and most of the time residents of the area are in the line so a tourist does not have a chance.
The place is beautiful and a abode of god for shiva devotees.

Clubbed this with my recent visit to Indore, specifically to visit the shrine, though missed out in my rece that there is a special aarti that is held in the early morning time, which is specially done everyday with bhasam, i heard that its not to be missed, however i did not know and ended up missing it. Also this bhasm aarti/abhishek is restricted to the gent folk only as per my understanding.

I visitied shrine on june 13 one of the sundays around 11 am, there was decent crowd, however, self and wife were able to complete the darshan in 30 minutes flat in the normal line. You are able to view the santum even in the line since the management has put in lots of TVs that showcase the realtime abhishek that is happening. The sanctum is one level below so your queue will proceed on a downward movement, near the sactum there are rows of parallel lanes with the closest being the most crowded, as expected and lot of jolsting around, However the darshan is very clear from 4 rows apart as well since your viewing point will be straight at the shiva linga and the abishek that is going on.

Once the basic darshan is over , you would move up to the next level where in there is another sanctum of Shree omkareshwar, small one, where you can do a pradakshina and get the babhut locket for 20/ INR.

There is a naga sanctum as well one level above, did not visit..aside to this there are additional temples inside that can be visited, Packed prashad is available both as sweets as well as the Bhasam/babhuti prashad for 75-100/INR

There is a huge network of pandits that will promise VIP darshan for 151/per person which goes to the temple trust and some dakshina for them .and will try to get around 500-1000 out from your pocket, its every individuals own call...At times when there is crowd and you are with old relatives/family members and can afford then VIP ticket will make sense..

Decent parking available.
