“Jai Mahakal”
Reviewed 25 December 2012

We Visited this temple during one of my visits to Indore... we could not attend the bhasm aarti due to the process but we were fortunate enough to attend the normal aarti at 7. the road from indore to ujjain is excellent so it took us an hour to reach there smoothly. We did not had to face any lines we could go normally. there is a charge of 151 INR for special entry. They have lockers there which is a good system as you are not allowed to carry anything inside temple. one tip pls carry some cash as you may like to offer something to panditji who helps you with proper pooja of mahakal. we could not offer him anything there despite of the fact that he really helped us in doing good pooja though we sent some money for him inside but we are not sure that person shared it with him or not. people there say that who so ever visits Mahakal once in his life time never faces the accidental death. His death is natural. The experience of aarti is mesmerizing i never saw such huge damroo... the total atmosphere during aarti is more than divine, May mahakal bless every one. Jai mahakal

“Mahakaleshwar, Amazing Aura!”
Reviewed 23 November 2012

Thankyou TripAdvisor for accepting my request to add this temple for review. We visited the temple in Oct'12. We had friends from Ujjain who told us that the best days to visit the temple was Wed to Fri, and we booked tickets accordingly. But, in effect, it was still crowded. Expect this temple to be crowded on all days, with Sat to Tue being more. For Bhasma Aarti, the system is complicated, but that information has been given by the other devout reviewers, so I will not be adding that here,. Just a note, Bhasma Aarti tickets are distributed each day till 12 noon, and the list is announced by 7.in the evening and them you have to collect the tokens for next day's Bhasma Aarti. So plan your trip accordingly. Ujjain is the city of temples, make sure you visit them. Jai Mahakal

I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Bhasma Aarti. Wake up early get in line. Get the tickets and explore other places. Next morning be at the temple gates with the desired clothes at 3am. It' worth the trip!

“The Great Mahakaleswar of Ujjain.”
Reviewed 11 November 2012

The system of queue for devotees for the darshans of the Lord is very good. The system of issuing tickets for Bhashm Arati is very complicated. One is to submit a form with photo and photostated copy of the identification in the morning, and collect the ticket in the afternoon for Bhashm Arati Darshan at 4.00 a.m. on the next day. This system is required to be made more devotee-friendly.
