“Great Getaway..”
Reviewed 19 September 2012

My wife and I along with 2 other couples decided to take a two night break from Delhi and we found this absolutely perfect place. First one must accept that this is a 14th CENTURY....yes 14th fort which has been tastefully converted to a luxurious hotel.
This is no place for people looking for any activity although they did arrange for local rajasthani song and dance. This is a THE place if you want to sit on top of the fort facing green fields and have a beer or read or just sit together and chat. Which is what we did. The rooms are very clean, spaciaous and bathrooms clean. The shapes of the rooms are quite odd and not very symmetrical BUT remember its 600 + year old structure !!! Finally the food. We all found that although there was not too much variety the food was excellant. Only one word of caution. We all wanted to go for long walks after dinerr but alas there is harldy any place to go to since outside the fort are all villages and a single straight road. I did take one of the cycles provided by the Hotel and go for an early morning ride down the road......but there was nothing very exciting with bad roads and nothing to see.

Room Tip: Do "look" at all the rooms before you make a choice since no two rooms are alike !

Spent one night on a raod trip in Rajasthan and the hotel location is nice on hill where the view is very nice when the sunset arrives. There's not much to do around at a walking distance and no real hotel activities. Diner food was ok but on a buffet base and price was out ot market.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback about the Hill Fort Kesroli heritage hotel in Rajasthan.

We are pleased to learn that you enjoyed the location of the property as well as the sunset. The Hill Fort's simple, monastic spaces are a refreshing break from the daily hustle and bustle of city life.

The property provides bicycles to visit the nearby Kesroli village and countryside for guests seeking outdoor activities. Further, there are indoor games and badminton as well. To cater to the requirements of our clientele, there is a swimming pool and spa that is being added to the facilities at Kesroli. The private cliff pool will be situated at the back of the Fort, with countryside views of the colourful mustard fields.

We thank you for your visit and look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Warm Regards,
Team Neemrana

Hill fort kesroli is an excellent weekend getaway from Delhi. It's peaceful, quiet & neat. The staff were courteous and friendly and the rooms clean and efficient. But this is strictly for travelers looking for a break from the noise of the city because there's little else to do (there wasn't even a television in the room, an idea which I personally loved but might bore some others) but there was one in the common area. Overall great place to unwind, sleep, read and practice the long lost art of conversation!

This is a place to go if one just wants to unwind and have some quality time with friends or family. Perched on a hillock, it is one of the oldest forts in India. Maintenance is fine, bathrooms are clean and the food is pretty good.

Got a good deal as we went in the summers. The evening dance show by local performers is also good.

If you are looking for some peace and quiet, about 160 kms from Delhi,(approx. 4-4.5 hrs drive still !),and with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do, this might be the right place for you. Pristine beauty of farmlands surrounded by low hilly landscape and a not a sound in the world, except a symphony of bird songs. The 14th Century Fort (it looks more like a garrison encampment), lies on a low hillock in the centre of a small village.

The service is good (though not very modern or professional), the cuisine is varied and nice and the ambience is basically good for the middle-aged looking for some "time-out" and frisky honeymooners, not for any youngsters looking for any fun and games of excitement.

There are a few places like Alwar (10 kms) that you might like to visit, but the most beautiful is the SILISERH LAKE, exactly about 30 kms, on the Jaipur-Sariska Road. A huge man-made lake, surrounded by hills, it is indeed beautiful, except for a terrible approach, and VERY, VERY poor effort by te Rajasthan Tourism to make it, what could be, another HUGE tourist attraction !!

All in all, a pleasant, quiet weekend rest with friends and/or family !! Once is enough...

Room Tip: Choose rooms facing the East side - Tota Mahal, Hariyal Mahal etc.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your valuable review about the Hill Fort-Kesroli heritage hotel in Rajasthan.
As you may be aware, Neemrana tries to employ as many local people who are often not educated. We put them through a training program and empower them to run their local heritage with pride. Your compliments about the service and cuisine are a huge motivator for the entire Neemrana family !

Unfortunately the maintenance of the approach road to the Siliserh Lake is under the Government’s charge. Nevertheless, we shall ensure that your message is communicated to the concerned authority. In case you wish to, you may write to the Collector of Alwar directly too. The address is The Collectorate Office, Alwar, Rajasthan 301 001.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The fourteenth century Hill Fort-Kesroli is one of the oldest heritage hotel sites in India ! Sited atop the rare, dark Hornstone Breccia rocks, you live among the security of splendid 700 year old walls which rise steeply to two hundred feet. You can enjoy the changing agrarian views of fields of mustard, millet and wheat. Kesroli makes an ideal base to visit the neighbouring palaces, museums, natural sites and sanctuaries of Alwar and Sariska. The origins of the seven-turreted Hill Fort-Kesroli are traced back to over seven centuries. It is believed to have been built by the Yaduvanshi Rajputs, who claim descent from Lord Krishna, but converted to Islam in the mid-fourteenth century to be called Khanzadas. The restoration process started in the year 1995 and the Hill Fort has been open to guests since 1998. Its interior gardens – both in the Mardana and the Zenana quarters are refreshing and intimate, framing the tent of sky above. A stunning pool rides over the view and leads to the restaurant turret. Kesroli also has facilities to confer in large or small rooms hidden below the ramparts. The duplex rooms are ideal for families with children as they offer them the excitement of a fort-destination. ... more   less
