I visited Marni Village in Crete at the end of April for a cheap getaway. The weather was fabulous, the views were wonderful the location was nice it was high up not in the main part of Hersonissos, although most of the activity is based down there (which is ideal if you are younger and into clubs and shopping). This however can be a problem its about a 20 minute hike down the hill and even harder to come back up. Having said that there are 3 little villages to the right of Marni they are Koutouloufari, Piskopiano and old Hersonissos so you dont have to go down there if you dont want to. There are lots of eateries in these villages. Be prepared to spend about 20 Euros for a meal including a drink.

The accomodation was a one bedroomed apartment, this was basic but clean, the bed is a concrete base and this can be a little uncomfortable after a while. The main pet hate was the shower it was ridiculous, the curtain was constantly touching you as this is on a wire that moves from side to side and the curtain collapses and the shower cubicle if you can call it that was only a few inches from the floor so you constantly soaked the whole of the bathroom. I wouldn't have minded if this was a wet room! There are shower blocks in the reception that you can use and these are a lot better. The rest of the apartment was nice had usual stuff like kettle, fridge 2 ring cooker and oven/grill the bathroom had an hairdryer too and most of them face the seaview and have a balcony. There is air conditioning(you have to pay for this)There are about 3 swimming pools which are nice. There is a little shop a few metres down the road for water etc and a bakery.

Most of the one bedrooms are located close to the entrance of Marni which are ideal if you have problems with hills, bare this in mind this is built on a hill so not so good for people who struggle with walking, maybe request a room near to the roadside at the entrance!

Car hire was good I went to a man just passed the laundrette going down the hill to Hersonissos. I hired a car for 5 days for about 100 Euros. Roads are nice and straight never had any problem with mad drivers, a must see is Agios Nikolas takes about 30 mins by car, there is a lake that you can sit around to eat and the beach and a few shops too. All in all this was a good trip.

Room Tip: Lower numbers are closest to the road ie 124 etc, the higher the number the higher up the hill you h...

My wife and I have just returned from our two week stay at the Marni Village. This place is just great in every way. The staff are warm and friendly and exceedingly helpful, from the management to the bar staff and the room service staff.
The accomodation is spotlessly clean and well maintained and there was a feeling that everyone working there felt valued, part of a team and took pride in their work.
The food at the pool restaurant was good too, with good value snacks (lovely burgers) and the best musaka I tasted anywhere. When asked to something more demanding like a fish dish, the chef was amazing
Beautiful location on the mountainside, with wonderful views and a feeling of peace and tranquility.
We also found the entertainment to be well above our expectations and while there were entertained by both a cuban dance group and an international dance show which deserved to be on TV.
Only note of caution is the hilly location, which would be a challange for disabled people

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the reception area have the best views.

The rooms are basic but clean, nice and tidy. The staff really friendly and familiar. Lovely pool area. Beautiful surroundings with the cutest little goats on the mountains behind the hotel. I wouldn't hesitate to book this hotel again. The only minus I can think of is that the wi fi connection in our apartment was really poor, you had to sit on the stairs outside to get a decent signal.

Stayed for 2 weeks at Marni Village (first time) mid May ... nice time to stay, not too busy or crowded, plenty of peace and space around pools, less problems with mosquitos ... accommodation basic, but maid service excellent. Beautiful grounds and views ... well located for eating out in villages of Koutouloufari and Piskopiano where there are so many good tavernas and bars to choose from. Our favourite meals were at Kostas (up side street in Piskopiano near church), David's on main street in Piskopiano (mezes only, but so good you have to queue for table), ONiros in Koutouloufari and tiny, tiny taverna called Asotos(?) in Koutouloufari - limited menu, but good tasty food. Our favourite bar was Cafe Mythos (turn left from Marni to go into Koutouloufari, located to left of junction to Hersonnisoss). Stella and Giorgos are so friendly and make you very welcome ... we always stopped off there on the way out or back in the evenings, and sometimes at lunchtimes too! Worth walking on through Piskopiano and on into village of Old Hersonnisoss, which is very quaint and again locals so friendly and welcoming. Main town of Hersonnisoss itself is quite a hike down/uphill and the only way is walking or taxis ... no bus service, which is a shame. Beaches disappointing, there is a nice beach at Stalis, but a bus ride/long walk away. Would definitely go back, but would not recommend for those who like to be near the beach.

My friend and I have just returned from a 10 day trip to Crete where we stayed at Marni Village. You can never tell when you book a holiday what a place is really going to be like. Marni Village, probably for the first time, met and quite possible exceeded my expectations! The setting is quite beautiful; the views are stunning, the gardens and flowers are well maintained and it is a stone's throw from the gorgeous little village of Koutouloufari where tavernas and bars are aplenty whilst retaining some traditional Cretan charm!

Marni staff were helpful and friendly; from our initial comment to the receptionist that we needed more coat hangers for our overbulging suitcases to suddenly find them appear, to the lovely Zarga and Manos at the pool bar (and unfortunately I cannot remember her name but the new Romanian girl who was equally as friendly). Our room was clean and quiet and the pool area was spacious.

I would recommend anyone staying at Marni Village to give the Iokasti restaurant a try which is on your way to the centre of the village. Absolutely superb food and served by the delightful Katie and Nicolas!

Only one minor gripe; we were advised the air con was 5 Euros a day. We didn't use the air con every day but it wasn't made clear to us that we would have to return the air con key on the days we didn't use it so we had to pay the full amount. This didn't detract from a fabulous 10 day break at Marni and Koutouloufari and was so glad we chose to stay there rather than in the centre of Hersonnissos which would have been great but lacking the extra special something that we both felt came from our choice! Gen & Chloe xx
