We heavily researched hotels to stay at in Kumarakom, deciding between the Aveda, the Taj, Zuri and the Lakeside Resort. We are so glad we booked the Aveda - it was a beautiful experience.
The hotel is designed around a beautiful long pool surrounded by flowers, coconut trees and bushes which ends in an infinity pool overlooking the lake. Individual villas are dotted around the pool with doors opening out onto a patio area overlooking the pool. Further accommodation/rooms are at the top end of the estate. The reception area/lobby is beautifully decorated and very airy and relaxing.
The staff were extremely friendly - especially the food and beverage team. We loved the breakfast buffet and enjoyed the traditional south Indian food. We also enjoyed our dinner at the hotel restaurant.
We had a poolside luxury villa with plunge pool which felt very special, we had a small front courtyard style garden leading into our room which had a living space area which connected to the small plunge pool, a bedroom with doors opening out to the main patio/main pool area and a bathroom. The bathrooms are half-indoor, half-outdoor (but still completely private) which was an interesting but fun experience!
We really enjoyed the daily 4pm complimentary tea and snacks with an hour sunset boat ride on the lake and we did this daily - it was beautiful. We also loved the cultural dance show one night. We really enjoyed the daily 4pm complimentary tea and snacks with an hour sunset boat ride on the lake and we did this daily - it was beautiful. We also loved the cultural dance show one night. The hotel also helped us arrange a daytime houseboat experience on the backwaters. The spa was excellent - booked on the day and enjoyed our massage.
We have given 4 stars instead of 5 as we had some issues - we had asked for 3 beds in our room (as booking was for 3 people) however there was only 1 double bed. We had to ask 3-4 times in person and on the phone for the extra bed but it took a very long time for it to be sorted. We also had some small issues with lamps in the room not working. The staff were friendly and extremely apologetic afterwards though.
Overall an excellent stay and we would love to come back again.More
