Awesome place. Beautiful and well maintained. Ideal for all type of crowd. Two families, Couples or friends. The USP of the place is their support staff and the chef. The staffs are very courteous and very prompt. Five star rating for them. Food is excellent ( we tried both veg and non veg).

Property is beautiful and even the photos here can’t justify the property. It has to be felt. Both sunrise and sun set can be watched. Surrounded by the lake on three sides. Ample cars can be parked. Very silent locality. Best place to relax.

I would revisit this place and will definitely recommend this property to everyone.

Room tip: Ample Parking is available. Good is excellent. Options are many to choose from. WiFi is also there.

This indeed is a hidden gem in the heart of Allepey, Kerala. The property is located by the Keralan backwaters. If someone wishes to be in peace, it’s a must visit place for them. The property is Keralan Architecture at its best. Loved the stay, loved it’s heritage feel and look. Most importantly, loved the hospitality by Mr. Vinod and the food by Chef Vishnu. The staff seemed like they were sent from heaven serving us humans on earth. Fantastic, mind blowing and most exquisite experience.

Looking forward to going back soon. ❤️

Vismaya is a hidden gem!! The service was top class and the food was literally the best we've had in Kerala. This magical place is one of the most private, scenic and relaxing experience we've had and the service has been simply perfect with the team looking after your every need. The food variety and original tastes prepared by chef Babu was just tantalizing!! Combined with the unbeatable island-like scenary literally surrounded by backwaters made this an unbeatable experience. It's hard to say which part of this experience was best, because everything has been perfect. Thank you so much team vismaya for a wonderful time. Ann and Arun.

We live in Kerala and have stayed at a few hotels in the area all of which have been excellent, so it was with a little trepidation that we booked a stay at Vismaya.
We were not disappointed. It is one of the most beautiful properties we have ever stayed at. The reconstructed 400 old villa sits in the one of the most enviable positions on Vembenad Lake.
It was beautiful, peaceful, so relaxing.
The staff, led expertly by Manager Vinod, looked after us incredibly well and the food was delicious.
A big thank you to you all for a wonderful weekend. We will be back!

We were warmly greeted on arrival by the villa host Vinod and staff. Arriving is a bit of an adventure as you come off the main road and meander along a winding road past houses and small coir factories to the tip of the peninsula where the villa is located. The road gets narrower and narrower until you are fairly sure that it’s going to end abruptly. Our driver was very worried that he might have to reverse back out. However it does end and at the beautiful gate leading into the ample parking at Vismaya Villa. Vinod told us later that it used to be a dirt road but has been tarmacked in recent years.

The villa itself is absolutely beautiful and exactly as it appears in the photos. It is finished to the most beautiful taste. Every very little detail from the colour and texture of the Fab India fabrics and the polished floor to the lighting are all designed to harmonise with the building. It’s very calming and serene. Everywhere there are traditional Keralan features but with added contemporary European touches and colours. It’s truly lovely. Apparently the architect visits regularly to ensure the original vision is adhered to.

We’d booked the whole villa for our party of 3. Vinod explained how it works perfectly well with the rooms used by different parties and as far as I can tell it would be perfectly fine but if you want the full Vismaya experience then I strongly recommend you rent the whole villa. There’s little to choose between the 2 rooms but if I think I’d prefer the one we had which is the one on the left. The only reason I can give is that you might have a marginally better view from the outside bathroom of the lake side lights at night. Other than that they are exactly the same.

The rooms are beautifully appointed and very accommodating. The beds are a bit low if you have hip problems but very comfortable so we slept well every night. The air conditioning works well though don’t reduce it below 21C as it can get blocked by ice. We found that a perfectly acceptable level.

I’m not overly fond of outside bathrooms because of a bad experience in Sri Lanka a number of years ago where I was eaten alive by mosquitos at 4am and we found showering in the high humidity of the Maldives unpleasant. However this bathroom was fine. It was never humid enough and whilst there were some mosquitoes (especially at dusk) we weren’t laying on an eat-all-you-can buffet for them at 4am. The bathroom is a lovely little private garden full of beautiful plants and ornamentation. The bathroom is stocked with Kairali Ayurvedic products which we we liked very much. One of our party found it difficult to apply makeup and thought that it might be useful to have a portable makeup mirror.

The attention to detail is quite extraordinary. The sand around the gardens is all beautiful raked. Every day the outside furnishings of the villa were put away after we went to bed and taken out again the next morning. Every evening candles and votive lights were lit around the grounds to create a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. Vinod uses Frankincense every evening to keep the mosquitos at bay (though I rarely saw many) and in the rooms. It’s a really nice touch. One of many.

Our days fell into a familiar and pleasant rhythm, - up early and to bed early. We’d enjoy breakfast on the veranda in the cool morning, eat a lovely lunch, have an afternoon nap, some sunbathing, maybe a swim and then get ready for dinner. There’s sundowners on the veranda listening to the call to prayer, the Hindu temple music, the church bells from St Thomas’s or even the occasional bird scarer. Then eat another wonderful meal for dinner and retire for a good nights sleep. It’s all immensely atmospheric, convivial and relaxing.

There’s lots of activity and variety on the lake, - the occasional houseboat, fishermen plying their trade and an endless parade of light which is a joy in itself.

There’s an abundance of wildlife around the villa. There’s otters though we only saw their prints in the sand, lizards, masses of butterflies and birds… lots and lots of birds. We saw Kites, Kingfishers and woke up to the distinctive cry of the Koan bird. The murder of crows which can be quite raucous but you stop hearing them after a while and they go to bed at dusk. They are immensely intelligent though and they peer at you, sizing you up. We think they may have been nesting as there was a lot of display behaviour and nicking of nesting material.

The pool is very pleasant and at its best earlier in the day when it it cooler. By 4pm it is bath-water warm. The depth runs from 90-130 cms. I meant to ask Vinod if people swim in the lake (probably not) but somehow forgot.

WiFi is supplied by a MiFi just inside the door. It operates at about 5 Mps which is fine for most things. I downloaded a film to watch one day and maxed out the limit for the day that I was unaware existed. I felt rather foolish and didn’t repeat it.

There was a big week long Hindu festival at the Varanad Devi temple across the lake whilst we were there. It started at 6am and finished late. Sometimes it was very loud, occasionally intrusively so but this is India and it’s noisy everywhere. One feels embedded in the community here and not insulated in some resort in the back of beyond. Somehow it all added to the charm.

Vinod is a wonderful host. He’s quiet and exceptionally kind and knowledgeable. He and all his colleagues have all worked at the villa since it opened in 2012 which is surprising in these times. He has an marvellous attention to detail, always ensuring that every thing is perfect. We very much appreciated the appearance of flowers from the garden on the table and in the rooms. He’s suggest the most marvellous meals and his hydrating lime soda is not to be missed.

Food here is really good. I think we ate our way through the menu but we didn’t select anything really. Every day Vinod would suggest meals for the day and they all sounded so lovely that it was just a pleasure to agree with enthusiasm. We enjoyed absolutely everything immensely.

We all had a marvellous massage, the Yoga master came in another day to run us through our paces (less successful in my case) and we took a Tuk Tuk to the local town to wander along the road market and visit the church. As foreigners we were very much a novelty in the town but everyone was very kind and some of the school children took the opportunity to practice their english. Great fun.

We had a truly lovely stay at Vismaya Villa. It’s a super place to visit and everything was just perfect. We’d go again in a heartbeat.

Room tip: Take the whole villa if you can
