“Osasis of Calm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2012

The place is just AWSOME!! Huge property. Very Calm and quite. The staff are very attentive and courteous. The food is the best part, some of the best Kerala cuisine I have had in Kerala. Must take a speed boat ride on the lake, as I would not recommend a one or two hour slower boat rides. That should be at least a night stay on a "Kettuvelum" to experience the true essence of backwaters. The cottages are placed quite afar from each other, so there is no disturbance from adjoinig rooms. The pool is clean and child friendly. There was sunscreen and clean towels available and complimentary chilled fresh fruits after a swim. Showers and changing rooms are big and clean.
We stayed in a Luxury Villa the villa was big and the bath was the best part with open air showers with only pigeons taking a peek.
Of all the hotels I stayed in their linen and robes were the best.
The only downside was not the hotels fault as there were weeds all around the deck that stops you from boarding the boat from the hotel. You need to walk to a nearby jetty point.

Room Tip: Stay at the cottages or the villa overlooking the lagoon

We spent 2 night at this property and trust me we had the best of times as compared to any of the Taj Properties.

The place, the people, and the food all were commendable. We reached here after a back breaking 5 hr drive from Munnar and I can promise you will forget all your pain after seeing the property just once as we did.

It is located right next to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, thus making it very peaceful, the hotel also arranges for a Daily Walking tour of the sanctuary with a known guide, thus making it a interesting tour.

The property is located right next to the Vembanad Lake and offers a guided tour on their Houseboat. The property also has small lagoon within itself and you could see around 700 Oil Lamps being Lit by 5 women each evening.

The food we ordered was delectable and i would wanna commend the Chef for preparing cuisine with same taste and flavor as it originally should have been.

You should only go here if in case you are looking to move out of the maddening crowd and want some peace and sanctity back in your life.

Room Tip: All rooms are good

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your noteworthy feedback.
We are glad you were able to recuperate during your stay with us.
As you rightly mentioned, the pleasantness of the greenery that surrounds the property itself is an attraction to most guests and provides one with the calmness that one cannot find in the surroundings of a city today
We are glad you enjoyed the cuisine as well
We look forward to welcome you back to the resort yet again very soon

Thanks and regards

As a family of six and we had a wonderful time here. The rooms are separate from the reception/restaurant and it is all set over many acres, running right up to the edge of the lake. We all had a great time. Staff could not do enough for us. Rooms are large and most on the ground floor with lovely outlooks, and big bathroom. Bikes are free to use, as is the evening sunset cruise with tea afterwards. In the evenings it’s great to see the flying fox bats passing over head, very impressive. Lovely Swimming pool and a very good spa. Gym was not up to date but this was fine. Early morning bird sanctuary walks, well worth doing. Dinner was superb, and a large buffet breakfast outside. A few more sun bed’s needed by the pool, and no free internet. Would like to say a big thank you to all the staff, you where all wonderful.

Room Tip: All rooms good,

What a gorgeous place, everything is perfect without seeming artificial or Disney-like. Could easily have stayed longer if we had a larger budget. Exceptional service. Actually it was better than exceptional, yet not overwhelming. Nice evening boat cruise. Great restaurant outdoors...

Beautiful resort and extremely kind staff (all, from gardeners, cleaners, waiters to managers)! The service is perfect and the swimming pool is a delight!

We stayed in the blue house, which is the middle category, nicely furnished and comfortable but a small negative point: the bathroom, in particular the shower and plastic bathtub were disappointing. (poor quality) and you do not get much privacy since the window faces the swimming pool. Despite this, it is still a very nice room and we enjoyed it.

On the final day we got upgraded to a yellow cottage with private swimming pool and wow... it was amazing. If you can afford it, it is definitely worth! The bedroom is great, also the swimming pool, but the outdoor bathroom is amazing.

The restaurant was good and reasonably priced (for this kind of resorts). We liked the complimentary boat tour at 4pm and complimentary tea and snack in the evening. There is also complimentary water, fruit, tea and coffee in the bedroom. We appreciated this (having the experience of many hotels that try and make money on just everything you might consume on site, we felt respected at Vivanta!).

There are also other complimentary activities.. pottery, small boat on the lagoon, visit of the bird sanctuary and two nice shops with beautifully selected arts and crafts.

I can think of one thing that would be nice to have available there, yoga classes in the morning. We stayed at another hotel in Kochi that was offering this to guests every morning and we thought it would have been nice to have this at Vivanta where we stayed longer.

Overall we had a wonderful stay at Vivanta Kumarakom and would recommend the place to everyone! Top mark to the staff, you do know what hospitality means and by far you are the best staff we have seen. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to stay at Vivanta Kumarakom again! Thank you so much for the sandwiches and little souvenir on our departure, that was a very kind and unexpected!
