We enjoy staying in converted convents or monasteries as we support the effort made to keep & maintain these buildings for the future. The Franciscan building reminds us of the simple needs of the religious orders & although the fact that the WiFi does not work on the second floor was annoying perhaps it is a good thing to switch off sometimes! The bedrooms are basic & the bathrooms are small, old fashioned but clean & adequate for the purpose. The ceilings are high & there is a charm in the serenity & calmness of the premises. The lounge is a reminder of the pews which had been used for worship.
The breakfast arrangement is quirky: order coffee tea juice tostadas or croissants from the bar area & it is brought to your table & added to the bill. Nothing extravagant & available until 12.am. The staff are very helpful especially Antonio & as always try a few words in Spanish as it enhances the trips! Parking is lower down & a bit of a challenge unless you use the free public parking & stroll up. Position of Convento is great for sightseeing. Vejer is atmospheric, friendly & has plenty of places for drinks & snacks. Only place to drink the sweet seductive Vino de Naranja produced by local Gallardo bodega in La Barca. You can have a glass at the hotel chilled or at room temperature.More
