This is one of the grandest villas in Malta - read Wikipedia to get an insight into the history. We paid our few euro to enter through the pottery and gift shop and spent an hour exploring the grounds. We were the only folk in the grounds and enjoyed exploring the ponds , the veg gardens the fountains and the Nympheums. I ventured into WW2 air raid shelter amid the cobwebs using my iPhone torch. If you enjoy visiting country houses you will enjoy visiting Villa Bologna.

these gardens are mesmerising, the smell of the citrus as you walk is so heady we loved the sunken pond

We attended a wedding here, the grounds are to die for. The staff were very helpful and the food was amazing.

This is close to the Presidents gardens(free). Although they have had EU funding. The gardens were a disappointment. They seem to be catering for weddings etc. Not good value. Pottery worth a visit if that's what you like.

Villa Bologna is a privately owned 18th country house. It is an entrepreneurial place, which hosts garden visits (and group tours of the gardens by prior arrangement), weddings, corporate events, concerts and other functions, and a pottery and handcrafts’ gift shop. It has an excellent web site. I travelled out on the No. 54 bus from Valletta, alighting after ca. 30 minutes, at the ‘Bologna’ stop in Attard, to visit the gardens. 6€ entry. I received a friendly welcome and a colour map covering 13 areas of the property, and a tablet/IPad to borrow with further interactive information and photo gallery. I enjoyed a relaxing 90 minute gentle stroll of the gardens, sitting from time to time, taking photos, and learning more from the IPad. It was fascinating also to see behind the scenes in the Pottery, which traces its roots back to the 1920s and 1930s, and to look at the ceramic work for sale. Not all parts of the garden are in ‘perfect’ condition. One imagines it is a huge struggle to find the funds, materials and skills needed to maintain and refurbish this property. Let alone to garden in Malta’s hot, dry climate. The result is a kind of authentic, earthy experience for the visitor. Within a few minutes’ walk you can go on to also enjoy The President’s Kitchen Garden (and cafe restaurant there) and the very different San Anton Gardens.
