“Excellent for a car-holiday”
Reviewed 7 July 2012

Nice hotel on a large compound, with ample private parking for your car. Rooms are nicely decorated and quiet.
They claim to be 5* superior, but to be really 'superior' I think some details are missing... Breakfast was good but far from impressive, service had some hiccups like no towels at the swimming pool, deck chairs that are not cleaned up after use,...
Location is pretty good if you are on a car trip, and want to visit Florence. Hotel is about 10 away by shuttle bus. However, the service time of this bus is pretty limited, last one a 8:30pm. Meaning that if you want to dine in the city you will need a taxi back. (About 15-20 euro). For that amount of money, you can park your car in a paying garage in the city, and take a hotel there...
We dined once in the hotel, the food was just above average I'm afraid. In Florence you can eat better for less money.
Do visit the big private garden behind the hotel though, the now have a bar service in the evening, with plenty of space between the chairs to have privacy. Excellently lit garden now, with several trees hundreds of years old!

Room Tip: The hotel is on a private domain, I think all the rooms are quiet!

Villa Olmi is a perfect hotel to start your Florence or Tuscany trip. The hotel is located just outside Florence (6 kms from city center) which is far enough to get away from the hustle and noise of Florence. The service is impecable and rooms are well appointed and respectable size. Breakfast is complete with eggs, cold and hot and cold meats, cheeses and breads. The restauraunt "il Cavaliere" is also excellent with good service. PS: the maitre D can suggest you excellent wines at decent prices. Altogether the cost is very reasonable if you consider the quality of installations, excellent breakfast, free parking and shuttle to Florence.

Room Tip: The classic rooms are very comfortable and offer ample space for an european hotel; as a bonus, th...

We needed to find a comfortable stopover hotel for just 1 night before moving into a friend's villa and chose the Villa Olmi because we had a car and didn't didn't know the restrictions regarding parking in town. For our purposes the Villa Olmi lived up to expectations, though I'm not sure it is a 5 star hotel. Maybe a very good 4 star.

Location:

The villa is about a 15-20min drive from town. The minibus service is convenient to use (book early if you want to use it) unless you want to go out in town at night. We found it best to use it for a day trip, then to drive in yourself at night to go out for dinner. If you don't have a car and want to explore Florence, I would recommend staying at a hotel in town. Also, the hotel is not situated in the hills so is not one of those you can wander out of to go for country walks, rather it is on the edge of town next to a main road.

Room:

Our room was lovely and the bed very comfortable, however I was surprised to find we could hear conversations in the room next door. Hopefully this was just an issue with our particular room.

Staff:

All the staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly which was to be expected.

Breakfast:

Breakfast was good with the usual smorgasbord of hot and cold food. We didn't have a chance to try out the restaurant.

Pool:

The pool is not particularly big but does the job, though the water when we used it was like bath water. Far too warm to be refreshing but good for a dip.

Conclusion:

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Villa Olmi. Perfect if you have a car or if you don't want to spend your whole time in Florence. If however you want to really explore the city or want a hotel in the Tuscan countryside, then I would look consider other options.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main hotel are much more convenient and easier to get to. Ours was in a building a shor...

We had 3 wonderful nights here. The staff are extremely welcoming, very helpful and certainly add to the charm of the resort. The rooms are very large, we stayed in an Junior Suite which is in a separate building from the main hotel, but literally only a stones throw away. There is a tunnel which connects both buildings which is quite good to walk through, there is a wine cellar and statues on the way through. The hotel is decorated with lots of paintings and antique furniture so you very much get an historical feel. The bar has a light snack menu so if you don't feel like a big meal in the evening it's suits just fine. Super service from the waiters in the bar in the evening in a lovely garden setting. The pool area is very relaxing, towels are provided too. Some say being out of Florence is inconvenient, well maybe it is but there is nothing like coming back for some peace and quiet and having a refreshing swim at the resort. You can get the shuttle bus which is free but we drove in every day and found a parking spot 5 minutes walk from Ponte Vecchio, about 7 euros an hour. Breakfast is also fantastic too. I highly recommend Villa Olmi.

The setting is lovely and there is attention to every detail. Rooms are charming and the spa tub is a plus after sightseeing in Florence. There is a shuttle service with a convenient drop off and pick up schedule. During our stay, we had dinners both in Florence and at the hotel. I have to say that the chef at the Villa's restaurant produced some of the most memorable dishes of our trip...don't miss his red chicory flan or the clam risotto. An excellent breakfast buffet is included and has the chef's special touches to make it different every day. There is indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the grounds, which is great for morning cappuccino as well as for an evening drink. Staff is attentive, well-trained, and genuinely welcoming. We are planning to return with a group of friends, who we know will love this place!

Room Tip: We were traveling with family - both rooms were excellent.
