Just back from a week here.
Arrived last Saturday. Went to the apartment and it looked as if it had been decorated in the 80's, with the same furniture, and not had a paint job or proper clean since, very disappointing. Mattresses were so uncomfortable it was incredible. Least TV was fairly modern, and the balcony looked as if it could have done with a good scrub and paint job!
View to a pond was interesting, as the "pond" was so overgrown with reeds, I was unsure as to whether it was actually there or not! Otherwise it was fine.
Farmhouse Bar - staff did the best they could given the small selection of drinks, spirits and awful cheap crap wine! Without a doubt the worst wine selection I have ever seen at a hotel, thank god we had brought our own case with us!
Pub grub was decent enough and not overly expensive. Leisure facilities were handy given the awful weather. Both pools were great thankfully. Woodland walk is great for wee ones too.
Overall, its very relaxing. But it needs a serious all over clean/touch up and I wish the staff were friendlier. Makes you realise why so many people go abroad these days!!

We have just returned from a week at Plas Talgarth, set in the majestic Snowdonia National Park. The whole experince was a delight as were all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble, and they were always good humored. As someone who works in the industry it was easy to see that the Management team lead with a firm but freindly hand, and the result is a fantastic resort. The aprtments are in a rolling process of refurbishment, and it was clear to see that a little work was needed on the apartment we stayed in, but despite that the apratment was kept clean and tidy.
We both had wonderful Spa treaments on site, and felt really relaxed, and cared for by the lovely staff, well done to Faye who heads that team up.

Reception Liz & Ray were a delight, Ray with his very dry humor, and liz with the best in welsh smile!

The food was amazing, and very well priced, all in all a great time had by all, I can't wait to come back again, well done Macdonald Resorts, you have a cracker in this one.

Staying at Plas Talgarth is like being in the middle of a bucolic picture postcard! We had a two-storey unit from which we gazed (and gazed and gazed!) out over hills, pasture, sheep and two big chestnut trees. Lovely.
The unit itself was quite all right: well-furnished, reasonably well-equipped, and clean enough. It's all pretty dated, but we're dated too, and it suited our needs just fine. One minor decorating gripe: the lighting in the lounge was dreadful: there was only one lamp, which meant having to sit in the glare of the ceiling fixture.
The beds were adequate and the linens acceptable, with the exception of the synthetic duvet and flabby pillows (a peeve of mine, you may find them fine) The power shower worked well, once we figured out that it has to be turned on using the pull cord on the other side of the room.
The kitchen was reasonably well-equipped, with good appliances that worked the way they should. Too bad about the French press coffee maker: I'd prefer a drip system, but that again is just me. And for some reason, our unit had only one frying pan that looked like it had been picked up at a car boot sale. The wobbly bottom on a flush hob surface just didn't work. The knives didn't work either, but after the number of self-catering places we've stayed in (all with bad knives), you'd think I'd learn to pack a paring knife and a chef's knife in my luggage!
As far as the resort facilities were concerned , we loved the pool. I'm fussy about water quality and the pool water at Plas Talgarth was superb: no stinky chloramines there! And it was warm, which many pools aren't. There's someone there that really knows how to maintain a pool!
Several reviews mention staff. We didn't have all that many encounters, which is really what you want, but the ones we met seemed all right. Oh, one older gentleman at reception glared at me when I said good morning, and the young lad there sent me to housekeeping for washing powder, and then housekeeping said to get it at reception, but in the end the problem was solved with a smile.
Electricity? Expensive, as others have commented. But no different from the exorbitant rate MacDonald's charges at their other resorts.
We were going to have dinner at the restaurant one evening, but then decided to try The Riverside Hotel in Pennal village. We're glad we did (see my review). It's going to be hard for Plas Talgarth to compete with the exceptional quality just down the road!
All in all, we had a very nice week.

having read what some have said on here we went with trepidation. we obviously had a refurbished apartment Heron 4 .on first sight the outside looks like a 60 s estate block.but on entering and opening the lounge door the view from the virtual glass wall was a big WOW .nice size full width balcony and patio doors make this apartment stunning..large open plan ground floor with every appliance and utensil you could wish for ,modern comfy leather settees and large bedrooms both en suite with seating areas and tv in the master. We didnt try the food or bars but looked well patronised as we had gone to the T.A. recommended Waterside twice, just outside the gatesAGAIN first class( best to book)As always first impressions do count and the reception area was a bit off putting. I think it had been refurbished but just looked disorganised. All the staff we met were welcoming and helpful. for a family break it has everything, aberdovey was worth visiting and aberaron ,newquay and aberystwyth not.

Lovely spot for a break - Dolgoch Falls were a real highlight - but the place is sadly dated, both in termsof the decor and the facilities. It's a shame because it has the potential to be amazing. needs a big injection of cash and a staff shake-up.
