Upon arrival, the owners struggled to find our booking, not entirely their thought as the local agent hadn't sent our details to them. They kept reassuring us that there was a room for us but it was the middle of the day and there was not even an offer of a glass of water while we waited for them to sort the issue out.

Whilst waiting, we investigated their bar area to see if we could buy a drink or ice cream and found all the bottles neatly set out but all empty and covered in dust. Fridges were all empty also so no ice cream or water.

The pool area looked welcoming and the kids were more than happy playing in it when we were at the apartments on holiday.

Once we were assigned our maisonette room, we had to flag a few issues. We've been to Greece a lot of times so are used to basic self catering accommodation, but this place even surprised us!

I had to ask for bins in the bathrooms along with a toilet brush (bearing in mind loo paper isn't allowed down the toilets). On the second day, we arrived back to our room to find plastic bags in the bathrooms for this purpose which was fine for us. These were then changed every day by us or the cleaners.

I also asked for a broom to be able to sweep the floor as we are beach people and the kids are always traipsing half the beach in with them each day, this has become a norm at any place we have stayed at in Greece or other places each year, unfortunately this request was not understood so we had dirty floors each day.

On the 2nd to last day after having no towel changes all week, we folded them all up and left them on the table in the kitchenette and arrived back to find all the dirty towels still sitting there, so the next morning we left a note on top, which was honoured and we were very pleased to find clean towels for our last evening (the little things!).

We were never advised of any wifi availability during our stay, and there were no posters/notices showing this anywhere so I can't confirm if this is an available facility. It didn't bother us as internet signal is great in Corfu and we don't have much use for it while on holiday, only normally to plan our day out.

We also didn't get advised on if air conditioning was free or had to be paid for. We wondered if we were missing a trick after the first couple of days and closed all the doors and windows and nothing happened. All our neighbours seemed to have air con, it wasn't too much of an issue for us, just had to open all doors and took a little longer to get sleep at night!

The water kept cutting off during our stay (to the point we had a cupboard full of all our used 2 litre bottles filled with tap water) and also the electricity, there's obviously a few ongoing issues they are having, which can also be seen in the tiredness of the property, not all lights working, broken glass on our fuse panel, broken fridge doors, air conditioning overflow pipes leaking onto balconies (a bit dangerous that one!).

Overall, the owners did what they could to assist when we requested it, but there are a lot more nicer places in the resort, it is a little disappointing of an evening to walk back to the block and there be no other guests sitting outside enjoying a drink and no music playing or social aspect (I'm not talking about parties, just a bit of life for sociability!).

For a base to then go and explore the island, it's fine, just don't expect even the normal basics you would usually, and grab the chance to shower when you can just in case!

We have stayed at these apartments every year since 2004 and have already booked for June/July 18. Polyxeni is a ten minute walk from the main strip of Sidari, but only a few hundred yards from shops, car/quad bike/ bike hire and some fabulous restaurants serving traditional Greek food. There is also several beautiful beaches and coves including Canal D'Amour within a few minutes walk of Polyxeni. Polyxeni is owned and run by a lovely family. The apartments are basic but spacious. Some of the rooms have been refurbished - painted, new fridge, new cooker, curtains, shower curtains etc. Our rooms have always been kept clean and had bedding and towels changed regularly. There is a good sized pool, a small children's pool and a bar. Polyxeni is an ideal location for couples or family's to explore the island on one of the many available excursions or to just chill around the pool or on one of the beautiful beaches. There is a small water park in Sidari and a much bigger one near Corfu Town.

We arrived at the hotel, which had no SIGN at all except a piece of paper stuck on a glass door. The studio was not available (due to maintenance works) and they gave as a 2-storey maisonette. The room was dirty, the sink had leak, and the water dripped all over the floor. after a day they brought as also a TV set and an extra bed for the child.
The bathroom was on the 2nd floor, and it was not renovated or maintenance for about 15 years (lots of broken staff etc), will definitely not recommend it.
