We had a very enjoyable lunch on the beautiful patio at Bridges Tavern in Thornbury. We ordered fish and chips, a pulled pork sandwich and a burger; all dishes were very tasty. The kids had burgers from the kids menu which included a drink and ice cream. Service was very friendly.
Because of the good experience we returned a couple of nights later for dinner and were seated inside the restaurant. It was busy and we waited for quite some time for our food to arrive. The food and the whole experience was just not as good as on the first visit.

We were staying at Embarc Blue Mountain for Centurion's cycling race and drove 13 minutes past Craigleigh park beach to quaint Thornbury. Seated on the patio beside 7 parked motorcycles/ even more bikes and cars in the lot, we knew it would be a long wait for food. Luckily, the kids could roam (to the lakeside ping-pong table and the "fish ladder" viewing, beside the bridge). Bridges is not as "waterfront"--overlooking the dam as Mill Cafe, but their patio is bigger. It's owned by Magnone's in Blue village, just a little cheaper. Think Southern food with a Canadian mix: jerk chicken or pulled meats on most everything (including pasta and poutine). Hence, their $16 salads; I recommend buffalo chicken on Caesar. We also ordered $12 tacos (crispy cod and mild jerk chicken). The flatbread was almost like pizza, except lettuce and ranch sauce drizzled on top. Kids get their own $7 menu. Nothing was drop-dead /to-die-for, but everything tasted pretty good...with the wait. There are only 6 tables in the sports bar but more dining tables in the rear, inside the red brick house. Definitely reserve a table in advance! Holiday weekends, there'll be free Thornbury shuttles to/from Blue Mountain 10-5 (11-4 on Thanksgiving Mon). In the summer Bridges can host groups as big as 200 on the patio, like weddings. Look for Bridges across from Tigs ladies' wear. Pets welcome!

Driving through Thornbury to go to The Dam Pub. Got turned away from that place as it was reservation only (no info of this on their site). Tried several other restaurants in the area to be turned down by all, including this place, as they were at their limit and their kitchen was already "behind by an hour" according to hostess. This place, along with all the other restaurants we tried, is a business. For profit. How do you justify turning people away from your restaurant when you are running a business for profit? Was just astounded. Never had this happen before. Anywhere.

Very disappointed with the food. I ordered a BIG roasted beet salad and was given a SMALL salad with a few slices of canned beets and just a few crumbs of cheese. There was no salad dressing either.
My husband ordered a pork sandwich, again really small portion with more bun then pork.
When asked how our meal was the waiter simply apologized and didn't offer to fix anything. We were charged $45 for this snack! Outrageous.

We had a late lunch and drinks with a large group last weekend. We ordered and finished our drinks before our food orders were taken and we waited over an hour and a half after ordering our food before it arrived. Quite a few guests arrived after us, ate, then left before we even got our food. We had to keep interrupting other servers who passed our table to ask for water, ice, and drink refills and several in our group resorted to walking into the bar to get drinks and ice. The food was fine, but absolutely, definitely not worth the wait. As an added bonus, there was a live earwig in my napkin/silverware when I unrolled it.

There was a life performer and the music was a nice distraction during our painfully long wait. Adding more staff and many more umbrellas for shade would really make the outdoor seating area more appealing.
