TEATRO DE LA SENA which is known as the LITLLE FENICE it is a masterpiece which is worth a visit. This tiny theatre is located in the old town of Feltre and it was built in 1510 within a palace ( Palazzo della Ragione ); then it went through several modifications and finally in 1802 the architect Gianantonio Selva ( the same which designed and gave shape to La Fenice in Venice ) was put in charge of the radical rebuilding of the location. Later on Tranquillo Orsi - artist and designer of the decors of the Fenice in Venice - took care of the pictorial decorations.
Very few people – even in Italy – know about this sublime historical pearl ! In 1729 Carlo Goldoni performed two comedies in the theatre and he was often visiting Feltre ... why ?!? ... because he had a girlfriend there !!! Unfortunately the theatre was closed in 1929 because it was not in line with the new rules concerning public safety. Nowadays works are in progress despite they are not completely over. Anyway today Theatre della Sena offers visitors the unique opportunity to re-enter the lost Fenice. The site is open for visits from June to September: saturday, sunday, holidays at 10.30 - 12.30, 16.00 – 19.00 [ During the other months it is possible to book a private visit with a guide - I advice this option even in the Summer time !
