We spent the last 3 days of our trip on the deck watching the river flow. It was great. Marielle and Juan and the rest of the staff were very helpful. We could have taken a few tours but we just walked around the town a bit and just watched life on the river. Meals and prices were very good and I highly recommend hotel sabalos for at least a day or two.

If you are staying in Sabalos, this is definitely the best place to stay. Located over the Sam Juan River at the mouth of the Sabalos at the "outskirts of the town", this hotel and restaurant had a lovely, refreshing daytime breeze and the best view of the mighty San Juan River. The room we had was spacious and had a very good flow of natural ventilation and very clean. Actually, the whole facility and grounds was very clean and maintained. Ask for a corner room, on the river side. The manager, Motorola, was absolutely wonderful. She promply answered my inquiries about river transport a week prior to arrival and did everything she could to make us feel comfortable. Transportation was provided to the and from the river boat landing area in the Sabalos River. Breakfast was very good, dinners were good and the service was excellent. There was a good (for the area) selection of beverages. We stayed for only 1 night, if we could have changed our reservation at the next location, we would have stayed longer. TIP - if you are travelling from San Carlos on the San Juan River, avoid staying in San Carlos for the night, take the late afternoon boat to the Sabalos Hotel and spend an extra night.

Clean and friendly. The staff is very accommodating. Recommend the omelet for breakfast. The lodge has lovely gardens to walk through, rocking chairs and hammocks on the deck to relax in by the water and a nice deck for water watching. The hot water in the shower (electric head) was refreshing. There was only one window in our room so no cross breeze but a nice fan helped. Wifi available on the deck.

I went last year with a friend of mine to Hotel Sabalos. We are students, so we didn't have so much budget. Hotel Sabalos has fair prices and gives a very good service in return. The place is half in the water half on land, and has an amazing view. Hotel Sabalos team made us feel comfortable and helped us in everything we needed. In total we had a great experience and we totally recommend the place to stay!!

We were warmly welcomed in Boca de Sabalos by the staff of the hotel that came to pick us up after a 1,5 hour boat ride from San Carlos. Reception was quick and welcoming, we immediately felt fully at ease in Hotel Sabalos. The staff were very attentive during our stay informing us about boat changing boat schedules, the way to tour to the town, excursions, etc. The food was good and plentiful. We loved the pancakes with fresh fruit in the morning. But please note: this is not Managua, so sometimes you have to be flexible in the choices of plates. That is part of the charm of the place. We had a 2 days stay and that was sufficient to experience Rio San Juan hospitality. On the way back we dropped at the Puente Sante Fe, on the Costa Rica side, so we could quickly catch a bus to the newly created border in Las Tablillas. The procedures were quick and after leaving at 7.50 in Boca de Sabalos we entered Costa Rica around 10.00 to catch a bus to Cuidad Quesada at 10.15

Room Tip: Room 1-4 are all nice with river views.
