The full name is Café Line A’la Carte – that’s how it’s listed on Google Maps for example (in the correct location). It’s a little house with a few tables inside and out, not ‘next to the beach’ as one review states. It’s not that hard to find though – there’s a sign on the turnoff, almost opposite Villa Mosvold and another when you get there.
Food is good rather than wonderful, the service efficient and friendly and the prices are reasonable. I was the only diner and my food came fast. Seafood salad didn’t have much seafood, but there was a big portion of tasty and well-dressed vegetables (no condiments on the table). I didn’t really believe the fish and chips would come with “tartare sauce” and, sure enough it was served (almost inevitably in Sri Lanka) with ketchup, but I got this changed for mayo. Again it was a decent portion and tasted good. Not sure I’d try their local food. I asked for rice and curry, was offered it with chicken, asked for just vegetables instead and was told she had no veg!
The only real downside is the location. Walking up an unlit dog-infested lane at night isn’t my idea of fun and the otherwise delightful little garden can be hot and airless and has more than its share of flies – I had to clear them away from my food literally after every mouthful. Still one of the best options in this area.
