We have stayed many times in Rothbury at Ethie Lodge and the Lockwoods' other two properties. They have never failed to provide an ideal place for a restful and peaceful stay. Ethie is well equipped and comfortably furnished. The wood burning fire is a treat on chilly evenings. Rothbury has much to offer in the way of restaurants and cafes, shops and galleries but is small enough to allow you to feel you are welcomed into the community. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking. with plenty of walks of varying challenge. A little further afield and you can visit the glorious Northumberland coastline. We are still, after many years, discovering new delights. Graham and Dorothy are the perfect hosts and make sure your stay is memorable.
We come to this little hide away in the middle of Rothbury as often as we can. The apartment is spacious, comfortable and extremely well equipped. It has character over two floors and the woodturning stove makes it a wonderful autumn/winter retreat as well as a summer winner. The village of Rothbury with its pubs, restaurants and shops are literally just a few metres away. There are many beautiful walks right from the front door. The famous historic Cragside House and Gardens are just on the outskirts of Rothbury but a short car journey will take you to the Northumberland coast with its magical Castles and fishing villages. If walking is your thing then the Cheviots await. The possibilities are endless. One week is never enough to fit it all in. You really need two!!
The perfect place to spend a relaxing break. Excellent accommodation which was well equipped and very comfortable. The location provided the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful coast of Northumberland as well as the stunning local landscape where we enjoyed a variety of walks. The village of Rothbury is picture perfect and has a good number of shops and amenities.
We had a fantastic week in Rothbury. Ethie Lodge is such a charming property and the ideal base for a week or two in picturesque Northumberland!
Dorothy & Graham were friendly and accommodating, even leaving a delicious bottle of red as a welcome gift - a lovely touch!
We'd love to come back in future.
