“Good relaxing hotel”
Reviewed 8 July 2012

The Agamenon is set in a lovely quiet area in Es Castell, near Mahon, Menorca. It is about 10 minutes walk to the harbour Calas Fonts where there is a great selection of restuarants. The hotel itself has staff that speak very good english and are very helpful catering for extra pillows, map of area, cup of tea at night etc etc. The pool is nice & clean with a small kids area but the main problem is guests going out from 7.15am puting towels on the sunbeds to reserve them despite a sign asking them not to. This is middle aged & elderly english guests and even reserve more than they need so they have a choice of sun or shade. Breakfasts are very good with a large selection to chose from but coffee out a machine is mediochre to say the least. Rooms are cleaned daily with your choice as to how often sheets & towels are changed. Evening entertainment was on twice a week while we were there but it wasn't particularly good. There is a nice garden area surrounding the building with steps down to it's own mooring for boats. You can walk into the capital Mahon, roughly 2 miles or get the half hourly bus costing 1.55 euros. Catamarans from Mahon give you a good hours sail round the whole natural harbour (2nd largest in the world) with a commentary of the history of occupations, forts, isolation islands etc. There are other small bays in the area, beyond Calas Fonts is also a nice walk.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to have a sea view balcony, some overlook the pool &some the car park.

Had this hotel booked by business partners. Spent a couple of days there and I was not disappointed.

My wife and I visited Menorca for the first time in May 2012 and stayed at the Agamenon for 2 weeks. For us it was an excellent choice.

Firstly, we want a 4 or 5 star hotel with rooms that have balconies and sea views. The Agamenon can't fail (assuming you accept that the large Mahon harbour is the sea) because rooms on both sides of the building have these views.

Secondly, we want a convenient location both for walking out of the hotel down to the Es Castell harbour area (which is pretty and lined with restaurants) and for trips out (there is a half-hourly bus service into Mahon, from where there is an excellent bus service to main towns on the island). We and many of the other hotel guests would also walk into Mahon, about 30 mins, much of which is along the Mahon waterfront and marina. Another excellent alternative is Carlos's water taxi from Es Castell harbour to Mahon.

Thirdly, we want a hotel with decent rooms, good food, and friendly, helpful staff. The rooms were smaller than in some hotels and short of drawers but they were fine, and we were perfectly comfortable there. The TV carried all 4 main UK terrestrial channels. The restaurant (and lounge, which is above the restaurant) has magnificent views and it wasn't necessary to get a table right by the windows, although these were often available (no fixed places, sit where you want). The staff were excellent and often on very friendly terms with guests who return to the hotel year after year. The food was typical hot and cold buffet style with lots of choice at bot breakfast and dinner. We also snacked in the bar or by the pool a few times, but had to start sharing these meals because the portion size was too much for us at lunch (bearing in mind we had big breakfasts and dinners too). Nothing unusual about the food generally but very nice nonetheless.

We have a short list of hotels that we pay return visits to and we shall now add this one to our list.

Room Tip: The block is built north-south (-ish). The rooms on the east overlook the entrance and small car pa...

Each year we come to Mahon on business and our hosts booked us in here on our first visit - it's not the type of hotel we usually stay in, but 5 years later we have kept coming back! It's a typical package holiday hotel for the over 50's - half board at reasonable rates, buffet breakfast and dinner, small but adequate bedrooms and bathroom, entertainment a couple of times a week i.e. faux flamenco and singing! Most of the clientele are Brits, apart from a smattering of Spanish cabin crew,
However... the staff are incredibly friendly, brilliant at their jobs, the hotel is immaculately clean, the pool is delightful (although overlooked by apartments) and the views over Mahon harbour fabulous!
The Agamenon is like a favourite great aunt - pleasing and dependable - but no Madonna!!

Room Tip: Choose room 512 - top floor corner room - views over bay and Mahon harbour

Great position with superb views over Mahon harbour.
Good pool and rooms .
Bar and lounge comfortable but slightly stark as is the Dining area.

Overall great value and we will use again for short breaks.

Room Tip: Book a North facing room in high season as it will be cooler. Air con adequate but not super chilled...
