“Lovely place, great hosts”
Reviewed 13 September 2011

We only spend one night in this wonderful B&B but enjoyed it very much. Room was very nice and clean, the hosts helpful in every possible way and the breakfast was simply delicious. The pool was inviting, but we didn't have the time to enjoy it. Lovely garden with a nice view.

We very much enjoyed our stay for two nights at the Sabie Townhouse. Murray and Irene were very welcoming. They made us feel "at home" in their home. The breakfasts were terrific, unbeatable! Murray has some interesting stories to tell and we enjoyed hearing them. Our hosts were very helpful in giving advice about that to do and see and where to eat.

Well it might not be the best-in-class hotel but its pretty decent for a B+B/Guesthouse. Nice rooms and the service from the family is marvelous! Dont miss the breakfast, Irene is quite good!

We stayed at Sabie Townhouse for 1 night and we had an excellent stay. The family room we got was spacious, very clean with excellent beds. Lovely garden and pool. The family serves a great breakfast and did their best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. If you stay in the area, thus for sure is a place we can recommend.

We had the pleasure of staying two nights at the Sabie Townhouse, a B&B located in the town of Sabie in Mpumalanga Province in South Africa. Our party consisted of my wife and myself, our two daughters and their husbands, and our 9-year old grandson. Our hosts made us feel right at home with their low-key welcome.

Our rooms were clean and comfortably furnished and the breakfasts were delicious. The house had originally been built by a physician for his family of five children and to house his offices. Since subsequent owners turned it into a B&B, it has had various additions to accomodate more guests and now has 5 or 6 guest rooms. The interior of the main house is a lovely blend of wood and stone and brick.

Sabie itself is located in the area known as the Panorama Route, where the high veld drops thousands of feet over an escarpment to the low veld, offering spectacular vistas, canyons and waterfalls. Because of its elevation, Sabie is a malaria-free area. Our hosts gave us helpful tips about which places to visit and how to get there.

As is the case with most South African homes, the Sabie Townhouse does not have central heating. However, heaters were provided in each room to chase the chill of the winter nights, along with warm blankets and comforters. All of our rooms hand en suite bathrooms. Some were equipped with shower only, others with shower and bath tub. Although each suite had televisions, none were working at the time of our stay. That didn't matter much since we weren't there to watch TV.

We would happily return for another visit. Hearing Murray's recollections about growing up in Rhodesia would be worth the trip.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Greg and Family offer guests a warm personal welcome to our lovely, distinctive home, constructed of river stone and local timber, peacefully situated overlooking the stunning natural beauty of the Sabie Gorge. Without exception, the many guests who have stayed with us comment on the uniqueness of our home and that photographs just do not do it justice. From the verandah you can catch a glimpse of the hyrax enjoying the early morning sunshine, watch our resident sunbirds sipping nectar from strelitzia and hibiscus flowers, hear the occasional fish eagle calling and we have even been lucky enough to have a hippo wander by! Or you may like to take a short stroll across open bushveld to sit on the rocks and admire the gorge and river below. The emphasis of our spacious rooms is to offer guests comfort and a place to relax and feel at home. All have a separate private entrance and the majority overlook the lush gardens. Children are welcome, so we have family suites available and we are the only wheel chair friendly guesthouse in Sabie. Sumptuous breakfasts are served either in the dining room or on the verandah overlooking the swimming pool. We offer warm and friendly hospitality. ... more   less
