We stayed in the BB.cocoon.resort for two weeks for a family reunion of 11 people, including 4 small children. We usually were in Rome sightseeing or going to the beach. The house with it's large swimming pool was a welcome refuge when we came back everyday. It is very spacious with 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. 4 of the bedrooms were air conditioned, one was not. I, the air conditioning lunatic from the US unwittingly chose the room that was not air conditioned. But, surprisingly, it was not a problem for me. It really cools off in the evenings, much like in California, so with a an open window and a fan running, I was comfortable. The villa is about 20 minutes from the Fiumicino airport, 20 minutes from the nearest metro, and 20 minutes from a nice municipal beach. So, you absolutely need a car to get around. We ended up renting 3 cars because there were so many of us. What I have to say is that the owners of the villa are absolutely amazing! I have never felt so welcome. The owner's daughter met me and not only made sure to show me how everything worked at the house, but also hopped in the car with me to show where the nearest cash machine and grocery store were. We had a couple of problems in our two weeks stay for which you cannot blame the owners in any way. A board blew out in a water heater so we lost hot water, but the owners went out of their ways to have technicians to come and replace it the same day. And, we got two bottles of nice Prosecco from the owners to cope :) with the inconvenience. Also, a power fuse blew out a few times until we figured out it was the robot cleaning the pool that was shorting out from time to time. I am sure, given how proactive the owners are, that it's all been fixed by now. I am very grateful I found the place through the Trip Advisor, and I absolutely miss it already.
We arrived mid afternoon (4 adults 3 kids) and were greeted by the owners son who showed us around, the villa was larger than we had expected, he gave us the very important wi-fi password! and the keys to the doors and the gate. A hand book was left for us with ideas of things to do in the area and how to get to places. The villa was lovely, and felt very homely it was clean and well laid out. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and cutlery, every thing you could ever need for cooking and bbqs. There were also the basics there like sugar, coffee, pasta ect.
Outside the garden was well looked after, plenty of room for the kids to run around, there was a large dinning table for eating outside which we did most lunch times and a soft seating area. The pool is great, although the pump for the water slide wasn't working, the kids made do though and poured a bowl full of water down pre sliding down! We all liked the little "robot" we had to put in the pool every morning to clean it. There was a bqq that we used a couple of times in the afternoons.
We found the location very good and soon got the hang of the supermarket run, we went to 3 really good restaurants nearby, a lovely ice cream shop and the beach was just a 10 minute drive. A hire car is a must.
A fantastic well kept villa in a great location. Most certainly will return.
I cannot recommend this B&B and its hosts Gary and Irina highly enough! My brief to my sister for my hen do was somewhere nice to stay where we could chill out, with a good pool and close enough for us all to go on a few evenings out and Cocoon B&B ticked every one of these boxes and more.
After thinking that previous guests had paid too much in a taxi from the airport, our hosts offered to pick us up and drop us back for a minimal fee (there was 8 of us girls so this was a massive bonus). They proved to be the perfect hosts - welcoming, chatty and friendly, letting us do as we pleased but there in a second as soon as we needed them for anything or had questions. Several times they took us to the local station for trains into Rome (only 1.50 euro!) and also to the local supermarket to stock up on the bargainous prosecco and excellent cheeses.
The property itself was also brilliant - spacious, homey and very clean with large bedrooms and comfortable areas for relaxing both inside and out on the patio. And then the pool! Situated in the middle of beautiful palm tree fringed gardens and with a diving board, slide and plenty of loungers, it was the best place to chill out with friends.
Ostia Lido is very close in a taxi for an evening of beachfront restaurants and cocktails - an experience we found to be more authentically Italian than a lot of central Rome (and very cheap for wine and seafood). It's a great place to explore Rome from and then go back and relax in your own little paradise.
Overall, I miss Cocoon B&B so much already and if Gary and Irina will have us back, we'll be sure to return in a heartbeat.
