Cuenca comes recommended but i suspect through lack of competition. Not the case anymore and they will need to up their game to capture our business - we didn't even stay long enough to try food after a luke warm reception. Perhaps they thought we were ex-pats rather than wallet wielding tourists?? The only thing going for it - the fab rear terrace with spectaculer views - was closed in the evenings we passed. What a shame.

.. the restaurant is always busy with locals when you go past and as such I was expecting a better experience.

Our starters were average, my partner described her mixed seafood starter as 'basically a prawn cocktail from Berni' and the mains were overly salted. Food wasn't bad, the service was good and the price reasonable; we were just expecting more.

Six of us went to Cuenca in June 2010 one Friday evening. The restaurant was very lively, much livelier than other restaurants we went to in Jimena, full of local Spanish people on a Friday night. Starters were €5-16, mains €8-16. My asparagus with two sauces tasted like tinned white asparagus with two bottled sauces. Disappointing. The €16 top Iberian ham on the menu was very good. My pluma with boletos was small pieces of meat with mushrooms in creamy sauce. Was ok. Food not as good as El Ventorillo and more expensive €155 for 6 with only 2 courses and one bottle of wine. Lively atmosphere though.
