“Gwych/Great”
Reviewed 12 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Our first time in Y Bala, chosen as we are Welsh language learners. Friendly hosts, happy to siarad Cymraeg" with you. Cottage is accessed by 2 small steps straight off the driveway a parking space is made available for you. I have limited mobility and use walking aids, but the slight incline on the drive proved no problem. This is a family home, we were there at Easter when they were all at home at varying times but we felt we had all the privacy we needed a quick showing around of how things worked and were left to enjoy our holiday. It's a perfect place to stay for visiting any number of areas Barmouth beach, Dolgellau great bakery here, Conway and the wonderful lakes, waterfalls in Wales all less than an hour away and locals are friendly and happy to chat in Welsh .The cottage is less than 5 minutes from Llyn Tegid and the railway http://www.bala-lake-railway.co.uk/cym/default.html which is fabulous for all ages. We had excellent weather the cottage was perfect and an opportunity to really enjoy ourselves.

Our first time in Y Bala, chosen as we are Welsh language learners. Friendly hosts, happy to siarad Cymraeg" with you. Cottage is accessed by 2 small steps straight off the driveway - a parking space is made available for you. My partner has limited mobility and uses crutches, but the slight incline on the drive proved no problem. This is a family home, we were there at Easter when they were all at home at varying times but we felt we had all the privacy we needed - a quick showing around of how things worked and were left to enjoy our holiday. We were a family of three, used the cooker, toaster and microwave every day and put £5 in the meter. We also used the free Wifi all week with no glitches. It is a self catering cottage - so do remember you need to bring your own toilet rolls, towels, etc. It's a perfect place to stay for visiting any number of areas - Barmouth, Dolgellau, Conwy, all less than an hour away. Locals are friendly, again, happy to chat in Welsh, especially Selwyn next door, and the staff in Gerrards bakery in Bala itself. Oh yes, over 80% of people in the area speak Welsh every day , but they Do Speak English aswell so don't worry. ...The cottage is less than 5 minutes from Llyn Tegid and the area has many other lakes around, as well as a lot of rivers. Ideal for fishing, canoeing, bike riding, etc, but also perfect for walking, photography and sitting watching the world go by. P.s. The stains on the curtains left commented on by a previous reviewer turned out to be accidental bleach spots. That's clean, not dirty. If you're frightened of finding the odd cobweb, maybe a countryside retreat isn't for you. You could try the posh cabins up the road for an extra £400 or so instead. We paid via PayPal, using a credit card, so no issues. Fantastic views, beautiful surroundings, too much to see for one visit. Thank you Andrew and Tyli, Diolch yn fawr, roedd popeth yn fendigedig!

Liked best: Using the birds as an alarm clock and the bubbling brook in the garden to soothe you to sleep.
Liked least: No McDonald's for miles. Joking. There isn't, but that's a bonus, surely. Nothing to dislike about this.

“A perfect idyllic spot for a relaxing holiday.”

I travelled to Wales in September with my partner and our best friend. We were very lucky with the weather and thoroughly enjoyed our stay for the whole week we were there. Tilly and Andrew were very welcoming and although their home is right next to the cottage we were left in peace to enjoy our holiday. The cottage was cosy but fit for purpose and was fully equipt for all our needs. I would note for future occupants the tv provided is a CRT so if you take your own computer console (for evenings or to keep the kids busy!) make sure you have the appropriate scart adaptors as there is no HDMI slot!! With that said we spent so much time out of the cottage enjoying the amazing things Wales has to offer we didn't end up using the TV much! I would thoroughly recommend Bala as a place to stay if you are visiting Wales it was really convenient for us to travel around the Snowden area and the town itself is beautiful. The pubs and restaurants are lovely and the people who live there are exceptionally friendly. We really didn't want to leave!

“Compact, quiet and comfortable!”
Reviewed 14 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Take a sweater as the cottage doesn't get any sunlight so gets cold quickly. Heating is very efficient though. Little room for saucepan handles and no freezer gave me the good excuse to eat out each day and the bed was very comfortable to return to. Owners are helpful and quiet so we had the chance to get a good restful break. The scenery around the area is stunning! Overall a great week!

“More rustic than cozy”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We used the cottage as a base to explore N Wales. Kitchen worked well. Bath small but functional. Beds were hard - beyond firm. Cottage looked a bit tired. Cobwebs, dust and stained curtains didn't help. Some of bedding was worn through. The central heating was a benefit. We washed clothes twice and took short showers and had to feed the meter 7 pounds. (The faux fireplace heater, we used for a short time, gobbles money.) The owners left us alone but also did not check on any needs and we ended up having to buy more TP. The cottage is connected to the house and the deck is right outside the kitchen windows (not as much privacy as you would expect from the photos). US bank transfer cost $40 to send deposit.
