Am just back from Batu Pahat, stayed at Garden Hotel for 1 night. Location is very good for you to go anywhere and is quiet at night. Dont expect much at breakfast which stated it is "Simple breakfast inclusive" , indeed is very simple.. haha...

For those FITs who wish to spend a day (overnight) in Batu Pabhat (BP in short) either in transit or exploring/rediscovering this old town, finding a hotel near the express bus station located at Jalan Rahmat. There are two visible ones as one step out of the coach. The Garden and S&B. The latter is slightly more expensive as it was recently retrofitted. I settled down on Garden as it was on special offer: M$88 for a standard room (as compared to S&B's M$108 - the difference is about a return express bus ticket from JB), inclusive of breakfast which I of course did not bother as there are plenty of good food in the nearby coffee shops.

The room I was assigned to was on 5th floor, relatively good size and clean, although I suspected S&B being newer, would likely to be far better. The security of the hotel was generally good, did not see strangers walking in and out, access to rooms were by card system and when the door is not properly closed, the system will beep to alert. Aircon was working fine and more importantly could effectively control temp so I did not wake up at midnight by excessive low temp. While the toilet of the room I stay seems a little old, it functions perfectly. Shower was working, no leak unlike some so-called newly renovated four-stars hotels I have stayed before - Garden was probably not more than 3-stars.

The counter staff was fairly friendly and efficient and the lifts (two of them) were working fine and quite speedy - this was an important consideration as I usually hop in and out of the hotel during day time - walking the town, take a shower and rest and repeat the process. I counted between 12.30pm Sat (check-in) and 9.30am Sun (check-out), I have done that for about 8 times. In a way, I have quite thoroughly assessed both lifts!

Unlike Muar, which is another hour away by bus, BP town is quite wide spread, but there are many streets (old quarters) surrounding Garden Hotel that one could explore slowly on foot, especially when the weather is good. I was luck as it was cool, with short showers (less than 20 minutes) during late afternoon and early morning and walking became less tiring. Along the way, there will always be some interesting food/drink attractive to try (and have a break).

With Garden as the centre, I was able to plan my journey east, west, south and north (shortest distance of all as one hits the river bank after walking 300m - but this area is by far the most interesting part of the town, with a big wet market in the morning and many good food stores).

For that, I consider Garden Hotel not a bad choice at all.

Room Tip: Only two choices of view: street view where one could see the bus station clearly (it is only less t...

This hotel is just one minute walking distance from Batu Pahat Bus Terminal. The room was clean and the reception is friendly. Check in last week when I visit a friend in that small town, my friend book this hotel for me. It's good enough for me.

I just checked in last week with my husband.at first, the hotel looks ok but when we entered the room,it wasn't that nice.but we understand as an old hotel and the price range.there was no bath mat.so u have to ask from them any cloth to cover the slippery floor by the bathtub.but the guy is fine.he sent an old towel within 5 minutes.and here come the spooky part.when I was away,my husband was trapped in the locked bathroom.he tried to open the door, but failed.after 15 mins,he managed to open the door with traumatic feeling.after I came.back, the door was working fine.the scary part that happened to me was at 2.30am.I heard the door bell buzzed at that hour.I went to the door but guessed what??no one!!don't know who's the hell, but I just make don't know la.won't stay here again.

The hotel look ok from out side, friendly staff...BUT standard and triple deluxe room has no complement drinking water, coffee or tea. Old funiture, some pillow has bad ordur. cracks tiles. Have to Pay advance to secure the room, pay as you stay, no minimum deposit for the easy of stay and flexible. i cannot request long stay like 4-5days unless i pay first. Well... i ask for complement ice water. THere is charges and hotel restaurant is different bosses.. so compliment break fast is very very bad..... this morning is fried mee and rice noodle, boiled egg and sambal, coffee and tea, no juice or cordial or MILK....i have to stuck here due to location to malay food store in front. yesterday i was staying in PELICAN Hotel for a weeks. check my review in Pelican Hotel.
