We stayed for 8 nights mid-April 2018, in a junior suite with ocean view. The rooms are really spacious with modern-friendly interior, always very clean and all the technic worked always well - in Cuba a remarkable mode. We were positively surprised that the hotel really has 3 beaches! I couldn‘t imagine that when we booked. We mostly spent our beach time at the middle one (the one with the lagoon) - it is ideal for a snorkeling beginner, the lifeguards are very supportive with information and you even can borough snorkeling equipment.
The three restaurants offer a-la-carte dinner at real good quality (no buffets) and also good wine etc. - we would rank it significantly better than usual all-inclusive level. The waitors are very friendly and the service is good.
A real highlight is the pool bar as well as its grill. Not only there is a large choice of Cuban and international drinks as well as individually prepared pizza and hamburgers available; the bar team is really professional and creates a relaxed holiday atmosphere.
In general the whole staff was always friendly, motivated and nearly all of our requests were fulfilled immediately. The butler-service was also helpfull.
We heard that also this hotel was hit by the 2017 hurricane Irma. We did not recognize any damages; some of the buildings seemed to be renovated or partly renewed.
We choose this hotel also because it is relatively small (only about 100 rooms) and indeed it is very quiet (also because it is an adult-only hotel). This creates a rather personal atmosphere which we appreciated.

Room Tip: It you want a real ocean-view, you should choose the upper floor rooms („Romantic junior suite“)

First time at this resort, overall experience was very nice. This resort classifies as 5 star but is actually 3 star in terms of room quality.Staff are very friendly ,service is good though the language can be a barrier at times.
Our room was ok,the cleaners did a poor job in cleaning the room from the previous guests. The outdoor shower had hairs all over the place it was quite disgusting.Had to tell the room maid to clean the shower properly, she seemed offended when we mentioned this the way she gave us the look. The décor in the room looks worn and poorly maintained, the cushion seats in the outside porch were totally ripped,we complained to our butler Liiy she assured us that they would be replaced. During our time it was not replaced, totally disappointed. The décor in the room is poorly finished, doors and draws did not close properly. This room was not five star quality.
Butler service is limited to booking restaurants for the evening, just a gimmick for the high price you pay.
Restaurants there are only 3,food taste is ok,not the greatest, luckly the resort has other affiliated resorts close by where you can visit and eat there. We visited Cayo Santa Maria resort every evening, the food there is way better.Good food and better entertainment.
Also beware that this is a adult resort, some parts of the beach the people were totally nude, this may be a shocker to some people. Also a note that some couples approach other couples in a manner to engage in swinging. The area outside our building was poorly maintained, there was cigarette butts every where, construction material all over the grounds.
Overall the service was good especially at the bar.

Room Tip: Rooms are poorly maintained not 5 star qualty

First time at this resort & probably the best service from any trip I've been on.
The butler is mainly to book your dinners which I loved & always handy to answer any questions or help with excursions and they basically make sure you have everything you need & they did all that & more.
If you like a peaceful resort thats easy to get around in, it's compact and you love snorkelling this is the place for you. We had our bearings by day one & snorkelled almost everyday.
It was pretty much windy every afternoon so best to head to the beach in the morning. I needed a sweater most nights too & sometimes in the air-conditioned restaurants.
The food was ok. I kind of missed the option of a buffet where I can make up different salads & sample more.
If you are a hearty eater you may want to order more than one appetizer or order as you go to see if it's enough to satisfy your appetite.
I did really enjoy the pizzas & burgers at the beach in the afternoon & the cappochinos at night at the lobby bar were fantastic.
Actually the lobster tail was really good to at the a la carte.
Not requesting an ocean view we were on the 2nd level overlooking the pool & it was beautiful & we could still see the ocean from there. The room is huge with lots of closet space. We LOVED the outdoor shower.
We found a great store at Pueblo Estrella shopping plaza for cigars. Great selection, very knowledgeable staff & good prices. Glad we didn't wait to buy them at the duty free at the airport because they didn't have much selection. The plaza is near Melia Las Dunas so we taxied to it & then taxied to Las Dunas to check it out & knew we could take the shuttle back to our hotel.
Didn't see any bugs but I kept getting bites so it must have been no see ems. Bring bug spray & after bite.
Great layed back resort with wonderful people.

This was our first trip to Cuba and after a hectic time in Havana, Trinidad and Santa Clara we spent the last few days at this amazing resort. We loved everything about it! On the day we arrived our lovely butler Lily apologised because the resort was so busy but promised that it would still be peaceful. How right she was. Most days we had the beach entirely to ourselves, we never had to wait at the pool bar or lobby bar and the sunbeds round the pool were empty. I don't know where everybody else went but they were missing out on a wonderfully relaxing time. The Romance Suite (room 0421) overlooked Sunset Beach and was absolutely beautiful-exceeding all my expectations. The outside shower was lovely at sunrise and the balcony was perfect at sunset. As mentioned in all other reviews, the staff are wonderful-so friendly, cheerful and kind. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The beaches are heavenly and the water so clear that you do not need to snorkel, you just stand still and the fish swim up to you. All the restaurants were beautiful and the food was delicious with plenty of choice. The entertainment in the evening was very enjoyable with Cuban music and a fashion show. If you want a perfect getaway (with no children!) this is the place for you!

Room Tip: The sea views are gorgeous so it is worth paying the extra.

We were at Melia Buenavista in March for a week. We are repeat customers and we always get great service from everyone. This is a small resort and a great place to relax and enjoy nature (beach, sand, pool, food). Hope this hotels stays like this for ever!!! because we love it!

Resorts and grounds :
The grounds are very nice. The plants are growing back since they had the Hurricane Irma.

Concierge :
Everyone has 2 concierges and they alternate every day. They are there to make sure you have everything you need in the room and also to make diner reservation. We had Edel and Gerardo and they are both so professional and attentive to your every need.

Lobby Bar :
Great place to go at any time but mostly before and after diner. They offer small show every night (for exemple ; small band, piano player, guitar player). The staff is amazing. Diuberty is just great and fun to talk to. He can talk french and english. There was a new employee,Dorgsys. He is a waiter at the lobby bar. He is so nice. His smile bright up the room. It was nice to see him every night. He is a great addition to this place.

Beaches :
There are 3 beaches. One is the sunset beach, which is very quiet. We always go to the main beach near the breakfast restaurant. Pedro De La Torre, is there to help you find a nice spot. There is also Andres at the beach bar to offer drinks. Thanks to both of them, we really enjoy seing you again.

Entertainment :
Navi, is responsible for the entertainment. All of the music group are very good.
There is yoga, beach volley and a few activities for all to enjoy if you want. All the show are good, especially the music artist.

Food :
All restaurants can accomodate you. They have 3 restaurants. We mostly dine at the « Los Caribe » were are good friend Luis works. Our meals was amazing, the service (with Yoanna), the food, the ambiance was perfect. We had a pleasant time. Luis is the man !
The chef, Asleey is very nice and will accomodate your needs and taste.

Pool Bar :
-Liban will find you a great spot for you to sit. He speaks french and english. We go back to this resort for the staff. We enjoy spending time with Osmany, Orestes, Lester. They are like family to us.

Pool BBQ :
Pitti and Big Papa are both very good chef. They make good pizza and other googdies at the grill. They work hard around the grill in the hot weather for us to enjoy great snacks.
While we were there, for 3 days, we could see management from Spain. Some of the standards were a bit different during their visit. For exemple; shrimps available at the BBQ grill. At the breakfast restaurant, they had little sign to indicate the name of the food. Their visit did not disturb us in any way.

As you may know, when you go to Buenavista you can dine at 3 different hotels. Bad experience with reservation at Cayo Santa Maria. The service from the staff there was poor. Food tasted good. Very poor service at the bar (near the lobby). They wanted to refuse our diner reservation even when the restaurant was half empty. We pay for a service, we expect to get it. All other Melia that we are allowed to go to, should treat Melia Buenavista customers like royalty since we pay much more.

You can walk on the beach for a very long time. We also saw towards the north west side of the hotel (past the tenis court) what seemed to be construction. Hopefully they will not turn this beautiful, cozy, quiet resort into a zoo (big resort that usually comes with poor service). I have a picture to show that a lot of rocks have been moved in preperation for some construction.

We are beach people and this place is just perfect for us. Alissandro and Miguel and great managers. We always go back, because the Melia staff is our little family away from home. Can’t wait to go back ! We love MB! and the staff !
