“Welcome to Paradise”

We have just come home from 10 days at Motu Ahuna. One of our best holidays ever. We had the most wonderful family holiday we cant wait to come back. We had a few cloudy days but the weather was mostly perfect. Lots to do but best of all very relaxing. Swimming Snorkeling, getting out on the boat to look at the other Motu and resorts which were beautiful but we really did prefer our little Motu. Very private so we all had plenty of space with lots of little private beaches. Our trips to the Mainland for some lunches and some shopping and even hiring a few cars gave us plenty to do and best of all no phone or Internet. We love this little paradise <3

“Your own place in the Pacific”

Villa Ahuna is everything we hoped for. It is a collection of thatched roofed huts: one big central one for living and kitchen, and two separate ones for sleeping; a double bed in each. In addition, there are several docks and little huts to sit and admire the view, one even has a massage bench! The decoration of the place is lovely: four poster beds with mosquito nets (yes, there are mosquitos), recuperated wood, little sitting areas dotted around the place, and it is all right on the beach - everything that one imagines about having your own island in the Pacific! A motor boat allows you to move around the lagoon independently - just fabulous! We have visited a resort and Vaitape and quickly concluded that life at Villa Ahuna was better. We went diving with Top Dive and that was great. Otherwise, we have been a bit unlucky with the weather which I must admit was not something I really had thought possible. Rain and wind has kept us cooped up behind our blinds but with plenty of good books to read nobody is complaining. With better weather, we would probably had been more adventurous. In bad weather, there's no place we'd rather be than at Villa Ahuna :-)

“Blissful holiday but be wary of a few issues”

This was a blissful 10 day holiday which was thoroughly enjoyed by our group of four and we would certainly return. But being on a small island, surrounded by coral reef, access is only by a small boat with an outboard motor and navigation is challenging. It is impossible to get to or leave the island after dark. The living area is open to the elements and mosquitoes and a good repellent is a must. Also everything needs to be locked away if one goes off the island so we tended to leave one of the group behind to be secure. Food storage and fridge space is very limited so daily trips to the supermarket were required. Also all drinking water needs to be brought in by the guests.

The power supply is solar with a generator back-up and guests should be comfortable managing these energy sources.

Considerable small item maintenance needs to be carried out on the Villa: screen doors don't close, windows don't open, bedroom door can't be left unlocked, gas stove large burner non functioning.

Despite these minor problems we had a wonderful time and are very happy to recommend the Villa Ahuna as a special place to relax and swim.

“The adventure and vacation of a lifetime!”

We stayed on the motu for 9 nights. Let me say that it was the best vacation we have ever had. We have stayed at beautiful, fancy resorts all over the world. But Villa Ahuna is far better than all of them. It is in a class of its own! We felt like locals living on the island, not tourists staying in a fake, artificial resort setting. We enjoyed waking up in the morning to the sound of the waves breaking on the reef, and watching the sun come up over the water from bed. Feeding the fish each morning was unforgettable - there is an octopus that lives at the foot of one of the docks that we fed as well. The fish, eels, and birds were all so beautiful. We are both boaters, and having the small powerboat at our disposal was great - we circled the island every day, exploring all the small nooks and inlets we could find. We stopped at all the hotels for drinks, breakfast a few times, and lunch. At night, we photographed the Southern Cross, as well as many thousands of stars. Bora Bora is a magical, romantic place, and the Villa Ahuna was the perfect place to enjoy all that the island had to offer. I would 100% recommend it to anyone with a sense of adventure and anyone looking for a place 180 degrees from the ordinary. Don't worry about bugs, or no A/C; such small inconveniences are of no significance when you have the most beautiful island to yourdelves!

“Authentic Paradise”
Reviewed 7 April 2014 for a stay in March 2013

My husband and I and our 4 teenage boys spent a heavenly week at Motu Ahuna last March. The open air living room/ kitchen is beautifully decorated in island decor and has everything you need to prepare meals and relax in your own private paradise. The sleeping bungalows are beautiful as well. This villa is on a small island in the Bora Bora lagoon about a 10 minute boat ride from town. The villa is surrounded by charming gardens and several small beaches and docks. There are a few other homes on the island, but these seem to be mostly used by local residents on the weekends. We only saw 2 cute kids with their pet pig one day,(they enjoyed the marshmallows we were roasting) otherwise we had the island to ourselves. This is a rustic paradise where you can expect some Mosquitos and other visitors. There is no AC in the bedrooms, but there are fans. Electricity is run from solar panels and a generator, so you need to conserve, but in a strange way that is part of the charm of it. We bought fresh food at the grocery daily including the very inexpensive and delicious French baguettes and ate simple breakfasts and lunches. For dinner we cooked fresh fish and steak over the open air fire grill and drank rum cocktails with fruit juice. With no TV and a slow internet connection we spent our evenings sitting on the dock watching the sun set and the millions of stars come out while talking with our teenage sons. It was a rare and special time! During the day there is a small motor boat that will fit 6(better with less)that we used to explore the lagoon, snorkel and go to town. There is also a kayak. We also enjoyed lounging around our private paradise. This is a very special place owned by a local Bora Bora resident who is honest and kind. It is much different from staying at a resort but less expensive and more authentic. You have to have a bit of an adventurous spirit, but if you do, you will love it like we did and dream of returning again.
