We eat gelato all over Italy. It’s never ending.
One of my many quests in life is to find the very best pistachio and coffee ice cream/gelato in the world. Found it! For now...
It’s right here.
The young man who owns the joint and makes this ambrosia deserves a medal — best €2-10 Euros you’ll spend in Italy (cuz you’ll have 5 at €2, or 4 at €2.50, or ... you get the picture).
The village of San Querico d’Oricia is off the beaten path south of Sienna (& on the old pilgrimage route to avoid Carolignian raiders), but it’s so worth a visit. It’s a UNESCO world heritage site, has everything you want in an early medieval Italian town, and was even the site where Frederick Barbarossa (“Red Beard”) was crowned emperor in 1155.
Get out of Florence and go beyond Sienna and explore the place. Go be someone who can say “I took the road less traveled.”
