Simple government run hotel. Very sparse and simple but just about the best in Kohima. The rooms are run down and musty. I had to open the doors and windows to start breathing. The hotel restaurant was again simple and just about adequate. It is centrally located and has a nice view. Not highly recommended but there is little other option in that town...

This is a government run hotel with a huge and imposing entrance hall. The rooms were clean but badly in need of refurbishment with scuffed paintwork and ancient fixtures and fittings, the windows didn't close properly letting flies in. There was a balcony partly overlooking a garden but the view was rather grim and when I arrived there were piles of burning rubbish in the street. The corridor had a big hole in the wall where they seemed to be building something. The restaurant at the Japfu was quite good and all the staff were very helpful organising taxis and sorting out phone problems. It has its own generator so you are not affected by power blackouts. The hotel seems to be located at the least interesting end of town and it is a rather unpleasant walk along the traffic clogged and dusty main road down to the war cemetery. In the end I moved to the Hotel Orchid on Chandmari Road which was wonderful.

Room Tip: Both the Japfu and Saramati have seen better days.

This hotel is fairly tired and in need of some TLC with flaking paint, old fashioned furniture etc. It is in a decent location and reasonably clean and for a night or two is perfectly acceptable. There is free wifi though the staff had a lot of trouble finding the password and it doesn't work in the rooms.
The food is very decent - very tasty and with good service.
If you're in Kohima then this isn't a bad place to sleep.

I stayed in the hotel for three day, loved the place and surrounding. The stay was good but the basic amenities can be improved a lot. The staff were good but the service is slow. The food at the restaurant is good. A caution, there is no service at night after 10 pm, not even drinking water
