“Usha Kiran Palace - Royalty of Gwalior”
Reviewed 12 July 2012

This is a premium property in the city of royals "Gwalior". As soon as you enter the hotel you feel the royalty from its decor. The plush green lawns with antique walls and its perseverance give the hotel an exotic look. I visited this place with my wife. We dinned in the "Silver Saloon" and I have to admit the food was simply awesome. Our taste buds got a treat at this wonderful place. The food was cooked just right, presentation was perfect and we were spellbound with the hospitality of this place. Then we tried our hands on "The Court", where we had coffee in the varanda with puppet show right in front with green lawns....wow what a experience it was. I would highly recommend this place.

Hi, I visited Usha Kiran Palace hotel at Gwalior last week. Its a very nice, beautiful, calm and well maintained property. The rooms are spacious and has beatiful decor. One must stay if planning a trip to Gwalior. The only problem faced was air conditioning. Since, it is not centrally air conditioned and it was around 44 degree last week, the resturants and bar was not adequately cooled.

This is a great property with a heritage building which was a palace in the olden days, large rooms which have a unique character and large grounds, including a functional temple on the premises. Food is largely Indian and while it is not gourmet quality, is perfectly adequate. The staff go out of the way to help with individual needs in terms of food. Most of the rooms are accessed using pretty winding staircases so it may not be suitable for people who have trouble climbing stairs. You may choose to stay in rooms on the ground floor in that case. The advantage of the hotel is a unique combination of personalised hospitality and a professional approach through the Taj Hotels tie-up.We went for a business conference and the conference facilities were also very good. A great place to stay on a trip to Gwalior.

Room Tip: Choose a room on a higher floor i you can climb and on the ground floor if you have problem climbing

Gwalior is an under-visited city. it's fort is one of the most magnificanet I ahve ever seen in the country, having lived here for five years. the city has gems of architecture, Mughal, and more modern, from its time as a princely state.the hotel is an idyll. Rich in grounds, vegetation, mature trees, bird life, but also with great service and excellent facilites.

Room Tip: The first floor, with balconies, were superb, very quiet: room numbers beginning 200 etc

Extremely difficult to fault this hotel. We travelled by train from Agra with our 5 yr old son and arrived a bit hot and bothered only to be shown to a lovely, enormous suite on the top floor. An extra bed had been made up in the sitting room which is completely separate from the bedroom so our little boy had lots of space to spread out his toys etc. If I am being very critical the bed headboard could probably do with changing as it's getting a bit old and the bathroom is in keeping with a heritage property but perhaps not as slick as a modern 5*, but it all depends what you want.

The building is beautiful and well laid out with a super swimming pool and spa just behind. More than anything the staff make your stay very memorable, they could not have been more helpful and made such a fuss of us all. The hotel was pretty quiet when we were there and everyone knew us and which room we were staying in. The laundry service was impeccable and very quick.

We ate in the restaurant each evening and were fortunate enough to get to know the chef, Rakesh, who will cook anything you want off-menu and discusses with you each evening your likes and dislikes. The food was excellent both at dinner and at breakfast.

We covered quite a large area overland during this trip to India and our 3 day stay in Gwalior was a welcome period of rest and relaxation. Don't hesitate to stay here, you will not regret it.

Room Tip: The suite on the top floor was enormous and very quiet.
