“Imposing Facility”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2013

Gwalior Fort looms high over the city of Gwalior and is a spectacular site. It is some 2.5 Kms from one end to the other with several structure worth seeing. Is has been maintained in very good condition.
Gwalior is often bypassed by tourists but is well worth a couple of nights.

“Aggressive "tour guide"”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2013

We paid the admission to the fort (the actual palace), Then we were approached by a tour guide who seemed to be official. He showed us around this and that, including things we did not need to see. I mentioned more than once that we wanted to get out of there, to see other things on the hill. Finally, he showed us to the exit. I offered him 50 rs as a gift. He said the price was 250 per person. Nothing was said about price before that. He became aggresive.

I don't like to be ripped off, but my wife was standing next to me. I told him he could take the 50, or take nothing. He took it.

All of this spoiled our experience, and detracted from the Fort experience -- we wasted time on this.

“Hidden Gem of Central India”

Well, yeah you have to agree with that. You can definitely come to Gwalior for fort alone, though there are lot of other amazing places too in Gwalior. I would say:
-- There's a lot of history about this place, the view of city from fort is amazing.
-- U can hire a guide for a more historical tour, but bargain carefully about price. Any thing less than 250 INR would be a fair price.
-- Some part of fort was closed in Feb'13 due to renovation but, I'm sure once it will be complete, this place will have a sudden burst of tourists.
-- Music & lights show at firt is one of its kind, but take some mosquito repellent with u.
-- What else to say about this 1000 years old fort, atleast some parts are that much old ;)

“Well worth visiting Gwalior for”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2013

Really good. On the way up we spent some time looking at the awesome stone carvings. When we eventually arrived at the fort we were not intending to use a guide but ended up using one. His name was Ram, and this turned out to be a very good decision as we saw a number of sights we otherwise would have missed. Spent over 4 hours here. Highly recommend.
