I am not a fan of big resorts like the ones you can find in Protaras but I spent a very good time at Capo Bay Hotel. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly, the breakfast was delicious and the spa, which is included in the price of the room, is well maintained.

We came for a holiday here in April 2017 after doing a lot of research and not wanting to fly too far from England with our 2 year old. We knew there was a danger of Cyprus not being that warm in April and therefore opted for Capo Bay hotel with it's heated outdoor pool for use by everyone until May, and after may it becomes an adult only pool.
Unfortunately the heated pool is heated to barely bearable temperatures and is therefore only really usable by the many children staying at the hotel in April. The main and very pretty pool is not heated and again in April is extremely cold. In the week we have been here I have seen a few immune kids in the pool but no one else.
The Protaras season really hasn't started yet and there is a lot of building going on in the village and probably only 50% of the restaurants are open at this time of year and this is not advertised on TripAdvisor. We use trip advisor all over the world to help us avoid disappointment, and when we got here, the first 6 restaurants we tried weren't even open. This of course isn't the fault of the hotel though.
The personnel in the hotel were very nice and friendly. The breakfast has a good assortment of things and an egg bar. At the weekend the hotel seemed completely full and the over crowded breakfast suffered badly. The season has not completely started and therefore the hotel probably isn't at capacity, yet for a few mornings in a row, I have seen people not being able to get a table at breakfast and having to wait, so I don't know what it would be like in peak season.
My experience of hotel spas and indoor pools is that they are very warm in order to relax and enjoy the massaging effects of water. Thankfully, this hotel offered the use of the indoor pool for kids accompanied by adults between 10am and 12 which I guess is helpful when the weather isn't great. Unfortunately this Pool seems to have the same heating system as the outdoor heated pool and wasn't warm enough to spend any time in. Maybe this is done purposefully.
The beach in front of the hotel is beautiful and the waters clear and must be great for snorkelling in summer when the water warms up. The beach is not golden sand as reviewed by some people but is normal fine sand and very pleasant. The beach area is public and in April at least you pay 2.50 per bed and 2.50 for an umbrella. Whether those prices change in peak season or not I don't know.
We escaped the bad weather by hiring a car through the hotel and haggled the price down as peak season prices have already begun for things like car hire. Driving over to Ayia Napa is a good way of avoiding the winds if there are heavy onshore winds at the hotel. The drive is only 15 mins and the beaches there are also beautiful.
Next time we won't make this mistake again and we will fly an extra 3 hours to guarantee ourselves warm water and good weather for a week or ten days. The extra 3 hours in the plane is well worth the happiness for a week or two of what you have dreamt about spending your hard earned cash on.
Finally, the rooms are nice and spacious (we had a superior sea view room) the bathrooms are nice and clean. The balconies are very small but large enough for 2 chairs and a small table. They of course face east and therefore only get the morning sun.

Dear reviewer,

Thank you for the time taken to share your recent holiday experience.
It is true that the April weather this year was not what our guests hoped for.
W would like to assure you that both pools, outdoor and indoors are heated to the maximum. The outdoor pool reaches 27 degrees Celsius. The wind thought leaves you with a total different feeling.
The best time to visit Cyprus with a little baby is the second week of May, June, September and October.
We will be glad to welcome you back at the Capo Bay hotel, should you visit Cyprus again, in good health and spirit.

Best wishes from Protaras, Cyprus

*this review is based on bed and breakfast*

Arrival

We were checked in very efficiently and offered a complimentary drink and we had our bags taken to our room. We had booked an inland view room and were upgraded to a partial sea view when we arrived. The staff on reception are very friendly and helpful. The hotel lobby is very modern and the decor is on trend.

The room

*2x English plug sockets in the room*
The room is very modern and the decor is in keeping with the rest of the hotel. The first thing you notice as you enter the room is the size of the bed, it's huge, and very comfy. There is a TV with (bein sports and shows all the football) but very few channels. WIFI is free you have to log in every 24hours (they stop as soon as you check out, so get the code if waiting for transfers) and is fast enough to do what you need to do. The bathroom is a good size and the shower is hot and powerful. The balcony has a table and chairs and is perfect size to sit out and watch the sea. Plenty of storage with a safe and a mini bar.

The pool(s)

Outside the hotel grounds are very well maintained. They give you 2 pool cards (no need to bring your own towels) which you exchange for towels and can replace them for dry ones at any time. They allow you to reserve your sunbeds for the duration of your stay which eliminates the need to get up early and place towels on your sunbed. The upper pool is smaller, yet deeper and heated and the lower pool has more features and a pool bar. The pools are plenty big enough to enjoy with families etc. The beach is at the bottom of the hotel grounds, the sea is crystal clear and the beach is very clean, loads of water sports gear available to hire. The sun beds on the beach are €7.50 for the day including parasol (2 people)

The restaurants

Breakfast is served 7am-10am. It's a buffet breakfast and you can have omlets etc, the only criticism is that if you go down a bit later (9.30 ish) there may not be enough bread orange juice etc and takes a while to replenish. However it is all very well presented and you can sit and look over the pool while enjoying breakfast.

*The only thing that lets the hotel down is the price of the food*

There are multiple restaurants in the hotel, the pool side bar 'mamas' is for snacks and lunch etc. Koi sushi bar has a nice setting with white 4 poster sunbeds and music with nice sushi and cocktails. The Italian restaurant is nice this is in the room where you eat breakfast. However you can pay €12.50 for a ham and cheese toasty which is fine if there is nothing near by, but if you walk out of the hotel you can get a freshly caught fish with rice and salad for the same price. We are out every day as there are beautiful restaurants surrounding the hotel that charge a fraction of the price for food of the same quality and excellent service.

The staff

All the staff are friendly and helpful and could not do enough for us.

Summary

The hotel is amazing and I would highly recommend, just pack some extra money for food and drink.

We booked this hotel through well known website not knowing what to expect. Although I had read reviews on TripAdvisor.

Photos you see do it justice.

This is a resort hotel which I usually hate but it is not huge. It was renovated in 2010 and it really is spotless - nothing is old , dirty , well used for a hotel that must see lots of quests. It has a modern relaxed vibe from furniture to art of the walls. It's not a tacky place even though Protaras is.

This hotel is great for kids to run around in. The grounds are safe and they will not get lost. It's very compact.

The staff are lovely and most have worked there for years. There were very helpful and friendly. We needed a chemist open late for a child and they rang to see who was open and went out there way to give clear directions.

The lobby area is really comfortable and open very attractive. There is an indoor pool/spa/gym but didn't get time to use it.

The location is great and restaurants on sight nice. You could stay there and not leave compound as everything is appealing.

This hotel is right on the beach and you have option of two pools.

The beach is nice you need to pay for beds as not owned by hotel by €2.50 euros per bed for the day. Well worth it.

The bedroom was on small side but we were a family of four and you get what you pay for. For £125 for the night plus breakfast for all of us I really couldn't complain. A larger room would have been around £300 a night.

One night I asked for extra pillows and shower gel it arrived within five minutes.
Very impressed.

Breakfast was great, one of the best I have ever experienced in a hotel. So much choice and good quality.

I think as a family we liked this place so much as able to relax - it's easy too.

I usually always find fault over something but really nothing to complain about except the size of the room. Oh and lots of English guests with annoying kids

If you are a couple travelling without children I would say this place is not for you in high school holiday season.

There is a kids club but we didn't use it.

Parking was easy and free and hotel was located right by main drag of shops and restaurants.

Protaras itself is a bit kiss me quick - tacky but there are a places to be discovered for a nice dinner at a reasonable price.

It's a good idea to have a car as we love to explore and found amazing beaches in the ayia napa area which is just up the Rd if driving.
