Lovely location 4kms over dirt road to retreat. This means isolation. Resort offers variety of accommodation, but not much variety of meals. Most evenings were a Table-D'Hote Menu only, at a price of approx 55-60FJD per person. However we found the food very enjoyable.Wine menu was disappointing offering only low quality Australian wines at extreme prices.(Gossips wines A$3.95 bottle in OZ were approx A$8 pr glass.)Would have paid more for some more up market wines but no real choice. Not much in the way of small snacks or items like ice creams or chocolate etc for kids.
Would have been nice quiet resort except that a group, that the management did not seemingly wish to interfere with, kept the bar open and noisily drinking until I confronted them at 12.15am to quieten down.
Unfortunately the Cocos Bar is such situated that all noises carry around into the ampi-theatre like situation.
The local staff were excellent, caring, and attentive.
Our De Luxe Bure was quaint, dark inside, but enjoyable. It did, however, need some maintenance as the front door stuck, and the outside loungebed badly needed repair. When it rained hard we did get two areas of inside roof leaks. However these Bures are over 50years old and the experience of them overcame the faults.
Some good evening entertainment is provided which made it more of a resort than a simple retreat, but I suppose they have to cater for all.
Activities provided were good, although we only did a bit of kayaking due to the weather.
General overall picture was lovely location, isolation, expensive food and drink.(Be prepared to pay what you would pay for dining out all the time in OZ)--but maybe that's Fiji anyway?
(Also if you prefer fresh milk for your tea/coffee in your room then maybe take Longlife with you as only powdered milk was provided.)
