“Beautiful converted miners cottage set in the heart of the Forest of Dean”
Reviewed 3 February 2014 for a stay in January 2014

I was really impressed from the outset with how easy it was to book, and how helpful the owners were with making sure that everything went smoothly. We were really late to collect the key as we were delayed on our journey, yet we were warmly welcomed and shown around the cottage despite the time! I was really glad to be allowed to bring my cat along for the trip, as she enjoyed the trip too!

A lot of thought has obviously been put into this cottage, which has been lovingly and tastefully decorated and maintained. The whole place was scrupulously clean and fresh, and everything we could think of had been provided, including some tea bags, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper and cooking oil, cleaning products, toilet roll, clean towels, firewood and fire-lighters.

The kitchen was well stocked with equipment, utensils, and crockery, which we were really glad about as we are enthusiastic cooks! We made use of the pizza cutter, the hand liquidiser, the roasting tin, and the cafetiere! The only thing I lacked was a rolling pin... but I don't know how many other people would want to bake when they're on holiday!

There's free wi-fi, a radio, ipod docking station, dishwasher, fridge freezer, washer and tumble drier. A whole room is devoted to tourist information, and a bookshelf is well supplied with novels and some boardgames.

The cottage is cosy, with effective central heating and two bathrooms. We loved the wood burning stove, and felt snug when the weather was drab. This cottage is a paradise retreat at any time of year, and I can imagine people with dogs and children would find it ideal as it is well prepared for both.

The nearest woods are just over the lane, which is quiet and pleasant, and visible from the bedroom windows. We saw deer tracks a 5 minute walk from the front door. An excellent sculpture trail is a short drive from the cottage, and the location is really convenient for all the sites of the forest. We did find it useful to have a car though, it would be quite a walk to anywhere without one.

I would definitely recommend this cottage to anybody. It is peaceful, well kept, clean and convenient, and the owners are friendly and helpful, and obviously really care about the cottage and making your stay a good one.

“Cosy Home From Home !”
Reviewed 22 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

As soon as we walked into this cottage we felt at home. Alan and Liz were waiting to show us around and were obviously very proud of their beautifully restored former miner's cottage.
They had every reason to be proud as they had thought of everything to help guests feel comfortable.
Although Sanders Cottage looks quite small from the outside, we were amazed just how much space there was inside. The kitchen is spacious and very well equipped and the utility room has a washing machine, tumble dryer and nice big fridge-freezer. It also provides a second entrance where you can take off muddy boots and dry soggy dogs!
We loved the walk-in shower off the double bedroom and the downstairs bathroom is really handy. The lounge is roomy yet cosy and we loved sitting in front of the log burner after a hard day's walking.
There are many lovely walks direct from the cottage so one doesn't need to drive every day. We enjoyed the Linear Park walk and the nearby woodlands. A little further away is the Arboretum and Sculpture Trail near Speech House. We were lucky enough to see a deer and two large wild boar and were glad we had kept our dog on his lead!
The cottage has a very pretty garden which is all enclosed so is safe for both young children and pets.
To sum up Sanders Cottage is the perfect base to explore the beautiful Forest of Dean. We can't wait to return in the Spring to see the bluebells and to complete Liz's 1000 piece cat jigsaw. I think we'll need about a month though!
