My boyfriend and stayed at the Sol Cayo Guillermo from the 29th November 2006 for 2 weeks and it was a good experience. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. Most of them spoke Engilsh so it was not too hard communicating.

The rooms were cleaned every day but I don't think that they changed the sheets very regularly. The decor of the rooms were very basic and quite run down, but apart from that it was clean and the maid service is good, they woud normally make swans from the towels, which were quite good.

We had a couple of massages when we were there and these were fantastic.I asked her whether she preferred a tip or anything else and she said that she preferred clothes, as they are expensive in Cuba and the quality is not very good. So if you are going and have some clothes you don't want they would probably appreciate these. They seem to like logos on them particularly english ones.

We went on some of the trips and Havana being one of them, it was really intersting to go there, most of it is incredibly run down and there were some beggars, but they did not really bother you too much. The town of Moron is where most of the workers lived was really run down and lots of kids would come up to you and some of them were very persistant.

Cuba is a great country to visit, the people are very warm but they do not earn a lot of money and many of them still live in shacks. Although this is a communist country, they seem to like living in this kind of society, education is free and so is healthcare. The crime rate is low and the weather is great!! Oh by the way while were were there it was very windy but its still hot though. There is a great atmosphere there and the music is fantastic!

Oh and the food was a bit repetitive but there was a wide choice and was really nice. The entertainment at the hotel was ok, some nights better than others.

Had a great time in cuba, the wife and i stayed from the 19 nov to 4 dec, had 4 dull and cloudy days and 10 great sunny hot days, can be abit windy on the beech, some days that hot you will enjoy that breeze.cubans great people really make you welcome and your stay enjoyable, hotel is good, rooms very clean, food can be a bit hit and miss, but loads of choice even for the die hard chips and egg man. pool cleaned every day, room cleaned every day, beech cleaned every day. only one bad thing do not use the phones in your room to phone back home very expensive, about 4 pound a minute. passport control abit long winded.

My husband and I were lucky enough to go to the Sol Cayo Guillermo for our honeymoon and we had a fantastic time!!! We are so miserable to be home and can’t wait to go back next year! I must say I’m a bit confused as others comments. We all have different standards I suppose!!
Although this is a 4* hotel I understand others comments that it should be a bit lower graded, but it is Cuban grading! This is third world country so to their standards the hotel is luxurious! Our room was fine. First impressions of the room were a bit disappointed but once we had unpacked we were more than ok with it. Just bear in mind….the walls are very thin!!!
The beach there is like paradise! The sea is so warm its like getting into a bath! We were lucky to have a sea view room and waking up to that every morning was heaven!
Yes there is a lot of seaweed but there’s a team of guys who sweep it everyday!!
We took advantage of the water sports, which were great and advise anyone to go snorkelling on the catamaran from the water sports centre, only 10 pesos. There is an arranged tour on a larger catamaran but its 30 pesos more. The speedboat trips also good but just be careful if you go snorkelling when the current is strong! I really hurt my neck fighting the current. In the evening you have the animation team at the hotel, which are so talented. Their performances were brill and they really entertained the kids. There is something going on almost all day, everyday; archery, boules, bowling, polo, volleyball, football, tai chi etc. Plenty to do! Get some exercise then you don’t feel so guilty eating and drinking as much as you do!!!
The food was more than satisfying for us. The international buffet had something for everyone and the fresh steak and shrimp from the grill was fab! At lunch go to the beach restaraunt and have a burger, they’re yummy! The best food at the hotel is the A la Carte. I’ve never had Pumpkin soup before and it was delicious!! The only let down is that it really is only toasted sandwiches available after the restaurants are closed, but they are open until 10!
Didn’t see one cockroach in any of restaurants!!!

For us, the best part of the holiday was the people! Not only the staff but also other tourists! Everyone was having such a great, relaxed time that we met new friends everyday. Our Cuban friends are greatly missed though. Especially Michael one of the lifeguards, he can’t do enough for you. Make friends with him and he will let you in on all the local info. Carlos from the animation team is a cheeky chappy, any single ladies, watch out!! My personal favourite was Julio. He teaches Tai Chi on the beach and is the president of the martial arts academy in Cuba! He is a very spiritual person and is happy to teach anyone martial arts, Yoga, meditation etc Please take advantage of his knowledge and meet with him.
It’s a good idea to take any spare clothes you no longer need and share them with any Cuban friends you make. They will be so grateful and you will be glad you did. You don’t have to tip so much if they know you will leave them something!!
Personally I do not understand how this place has had bad reviews. For us and many of the people we met, it was perfect. You compromise on the home comforts as soon as you book the Caribbean! You just can’t find a beach like that for the money you pay anywhere else in the world and the staff at the hotel, unforgettable.
We loved this hotel and we will definitely go back next year. We will take our 3 year old with us, as she will love it too!

We were moved to the Sol Cayo Guillermo from the Caribe Club Cojimar (after taking a walk down to see it Thank God). We were upgraded to a 4* but although we had a great time and the hotel was nice there is no way it is a 4*. We meet great pople and everyday was an adventure. It was better then an episod of Eastenders for gossip.

Staff are great and always helpful, our drinks were sitting on the table every night waiting for us. Food was ok, there will always be somthing you will like in the buffet restaurant but dont forget to try the a la carte it is great. Beach is realy nice (when the tide is out and you can see it). Pool is dirty in places but most of my time was spent sitting by it so it cant of been that bad. Accommodation was nice and clean although we were in the 100's and it was a good walk from the main pool area. The disco is well worth a visit, one of the reviews it said it was crowded but there was only us in there while we were there (max of 8 ) and we had a great time. you are sure to get a bite or two while you are there. If i could do it all again i would we did everything from visiting Havana to swimming in the pool in our cloths at 1am. If you go with an open mind and get lucky with the poeple like we did you are sure to enjoy it.

Ps I think there is a chicken missing from the snack bar!!!!!!!!
