This was our first trip to the West Indies side of the Caribbean, having stayed at the Excellence Playa Mujeres in Cancun before to experience the Caribbean. The Excellence was always going to be the benchmark for all inclusive luxury and for my mind, it cannot be beaten.
However, the Sugar Bay comes a close second and is much more intimate.
Fantastic location, right on the beach and in secure grounds - very nice.
The hotel itself is a whitewashed, New England style and is very chilled with a nice ambiance. Great check in experience with cold towels and a rum punch on arrival.
Although the main restaurant is a buffet style, it is not like one of the package holiday style ones. Smaller, but plentiful options, with nice secluded tables. You can also dine at Sizzle or Umi - Sizzle was a fantastic steak restaurant.
The beach is great - never used the pool as why would you when you're on the beach?!
The gym was great and the two bars were also very good.
The best thins about this hotel is the staff. They simply cannot do enough for you and a special mention goes to Pedro and Kimberley who were amazing.
All in all, a fabulous holiday and Barbados is a great location. We did the Mount Gay rum tour, had a tour around the Kensington Oval and experienced Oistins. Superb holiday and will definitely go back.More
