We read the review of this hotel in Lonely Planet, big mistake to believe it.
We had the best room overlooking the rubbish tip. The electric plugs were hanging off the walls, trickle of water from the gyser, broken toilet and seat impossible to sit on. Thin mattress, threadbare linen and towels, very grey in colour. Moth balls everywhere, very strong smell.
Very expensive for the facilities provided. Tiny patch of grass to sit on. At this price would expect a fridg., tea/coffee, safe deposit box available.
Food was very disappointing and served in a dark, gloomy restaurant by staff who hadn't a clue how to serve let alone what efficiency was and we have travelled extensively in India but this was the worst experience we have ever had.
We booked with Swasti travel agent in Bhubaneshwar, paid in advance but could not cope with completing our number of days. Since then we have been trying to get a refund for the days not used but no luck so avoid this scam company like the plague.
We cannot believe that the other reviewers actually stayed at this hotel.
They are supposed to be having renovations but don't hold your breath!!!!

Before going to Swosti Palm -Gopalpur I was a bit weary. As against my pre reserved notions, the experience was rather nice.

The first impression when you park into swosti palm is that of a government guest house. It indeed was a guesthouse created by the TATA group of companies, but owing to certain reasons The TATAs sold it to the Swosti group and it was converted into a hotel.

The rooms were very basic but we stayed at the suite and suite indeed was really nice. Huge, well lit up, beautiful victorian furniture, gold silk drapes, minimalistic and nice. The bathroom was basic but clean and there was hot water available 24x7.

I liked the food but it was inconsistent. For eg. I ordered for chilli cheese toast and everytime got a different recepie but it was delicious. I particularly liked the tandoori pomfret and chilly prawns. Breakfast was not so good, mostly cold and took long to be served. We always placed our orders an hour in advance. As the hotel staff is slightly slow. Staff were cordial and warm.

The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the beach so the location is prime. The approach to the hotel is the only sad part. The road is bad and very dirty. But once inside the place is nice.

Swosti Palm resort, is not really on the beach, although it is within a five minute walk. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel has a good restaurant, and the indian and Indian chinese food is reasonably ok. The room maintainance has a to be desired. The toilets are very basic, ill maintained but clean. The hotel does not have an independent path to the beach, and you have to walk on a public road full of garbage to get to he beach. There are no lights on the beach, so after dark it is not possible to sit or walk on the beach near the hotel. The prices are slightly high for the place, but at least you can get a decent meal and a clean bed.
