“It's a truly magical place.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2011

If you want to go on safari and if you want to see so many elephants in the wild, then this is the right place.
Renting a jeep with driver (2500 Rs), paying the ticket to the driver Rs 60 and Rs 1500 by paying your own, you can treat yourself to a couple of hours in this beautiful place.
Usually safaris start at around 15:00, on completion of entry formalities, your driver will take you inside the park. The ability of the latter is to show you and lead you whenever rapacious, peacocks, monkeys, buffaloes, elephants and storks. But above all it is their patience. They turn off the engine and make you enjoy the quiet majesty of these animals. you can see families of elephants teach their young to graze, their young ones that indulge in short, is a truly magical place.

“Saw scores of wild elephants”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2011

A wonderful trip to the newly designated national park of Minneriya, this is where wild elephants gather in large numbers in the dry season as the reservoir or 'tank' never dries up. We saw scores of elephants in two large groups, plus three lone males. Lots of baby elephants too! Good bird watching opps. our jeep was ancient and falling apart, the other groups appeared to have more modern vehicles! You could get close enough to take good pics. our guide/tracker was knowledgeable and communicated pretty well.

“Dumpy, dusty fun”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2011

We took safaris in three national parks in Sri Lanka and enjoyed them all. At Minneriya we had a 40 year old jeep with bench seats or standing between the bars. It cost us US$50 for the jeep plus the cost of the park entry. It was bumpy and dusty and well worth the effort.
We saw jackal, spotted deer, four elephants, macaques, langurs, lots of birds including painted storks, open-bills, purple heron, sea eagle then a herd of eight female elephants with two calves. If you are standing up, remember to watch and duck.

“Nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2011

VIsited this park during my tour in Srilanka, the landscape views in the park are amazing, you can spot large number of elephants and other bird species,
but you cannot consider the trip here as a real Safari as you only see elephants ,
NB: the first 20-30 minutes in this park you see nothing and very road conditions !!! till you arrive to the reservoir open area where you see a spectecular view

a must with any visist to Dambulla or Habarana

“Somewhat pricey reserve, but worth a visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2011

The foreigner rates are high, and the park isn't massive.
The elephants are plentiful, and quite used to having humans watch them. It was a treat for our kids. We also spotted a massive vulture, a fox and ginormous flocks of birds by the lake.
