“Experience the real Macau”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2012

This hotel is a little gem that is so different from other luxury chain hotel in Macau. Some may find location is a problem as it's not central located to the main attractions in Macau. Yet, if your travel purpose is for relaxation and experience the real Macau, this pousada is definitely your best choice.
The only thing troubles me is the size of washroom...it's really too small.

This is a nice and quiet place away from the madding crowd of gamblers and shoppers, but looking on the not so bright side of it, you could say there's nowhere to shop or dine within walking distance (Well, there was one on the hill but it was closed for Xmas at the time of my stay). The hotel building looks nice in photos, but having stayed at several pousadas and paradores of historicl importance in Portugal and Spain, I wasn't particularly impressed with this architecture with just a thin veneer of pseudo-Portuguese culture. I expected rather too much about the view from the hill, and naturally I was disappointed at the view of the unclean, poverty-stricken apartment blocks surrounding the hill. Once inside the hotel, I was allocated a fairly large space that had a large entry room with a beautiful classical desk with a computer on top for free Internet connexion, next to which a separate bedroom with a small balcony appeared, and a toilet with shower. The staff (in fact hospitality/catering students) were polite but a bit too formal and unfriendly, or this is because their English was so limited. One of them suggested I should have some complimentary "welcome drink" at the bar, which turned out to my chagrin to be a lukewarm much too diluted watery non-alcoholic sweet drink with a slight trace of honey. In short, it was almost undrinkable though no harm was done to my stomach. The hotel offers free shuttle bus service to the sea port immigration, Senado Square (the very centre of Macau) and as far as the islands of Taipa and Coloane in the south. One morning I chose to go to Coloane's beach, which was the farthest I could get to on the shuttle bus. Upon arrival I realised that the beach was blocked by some construction work barriers and the sea was nowhere to see, so I decided to get back to the bustling civilisation on the main island by hopping on the same hotel shuttle bus again. But surprisingly the driver employed by the hotel flatly refused to pick me up with a very hostile gesture, revved up the engine and was gone with exhaust fumes. I was lucky to catch a municipal bus some time later. I shan't tolerate this sort of treatment, so I'll look for another accommodation next time.

Only 20 rooms so get in early to book this little gem.
Rooms are spacious, fitted with all the amenities you'd expect. Shower was fantastic.
A little out of the way, but that is also it's charm.
Definitely book into the Educational Restaurant a little further up the road, we had a delicious lunch there.
Can't wait to re-visit both places again. So easy to see why it's rated Number 1 on Trip Advisor.

Good environment, good service, good facility, good breakfast, every thing is nice to keep away from the crowded casino to take a rest and enjoy the holiday at Macau. However, only 20 rooms for the hotel, you need to book very early .

Thanks to the excellent reviews from Tripadvisor for us to give this hidden gem a try! It really lives up to its name as a great value hotel with a distinct difference, run by the Institute for Tourism Studies with a guaranteed peaceful environment away from the casinos.

The hotel was surrounded by a lovely and humble garden. The room was quiet and huge, featured with Asian touches. The clean and hassle free room with more than comfortable beds helped us to have a good night sleep after a long 2-hour wait at the Macau customs in the afternoon. We stayed here for 2 nights and will definitely stay here again.

Breakfast was decent with varied noodles daily. We loved the ambience of the cafe... a good spot for a lazy morning to have a good breakfast. Recommend to try the well-reviewed Macanese cuisine at IFT Educational Restaurant which was a short walk up the slope of the hotel. It was preferred to make a table reservation at the hotel reception especially for dinners and meals during the weekends.

There was a shuttle bus service every morning and evening that will leave from the hotel to ferry terminal and town area. Taxis were quite easily accessible on the main roads, so we took taxi back to the hotel every night which we do not experience any inconvenience.

Room Tip: Book early to avoid any disappointment as the hotel has only 20 guest rooms (including 4 suites). Ro...
