“Will most likely stay again”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2012

Right from the beginning the staff in the Okura were friendly and attentive, this was a consistent and positive experience throughout our stay.

Our room was a Superior Suite - although we had requested a no-smoking room with our booking at check-in they said there was construction work on that floor and so nothing was available. They did offer to move our room if we were not happy - not a good start but the room was fine. The suite was comfortable and reasonably spacious though the beds are not up to the comfort level of some other hotels and for some reason the room seemed to get warmer (a bit too warm) overnight despite turning the air-conditioning down.

The bathroom is a very good size with a jacuzzi bath, sauna room and shower/steam-room. The bath however has its taps out of reach for anyone under about 6ft (184cm) requiring them to get in the bath to reach them - odd. Even if you are tall enough it is quite a stretch. Towels are stored on the opposite side of the bathroom from the shower so you have to remember to take one with you. The separate toilet is a auto-lid opening push button affair (there are two toilets in the suite).

Furnishings in the room are attractive and seemed to be something like Ikea quality. The room safe looks large but is quite shallow - too shallow. The small balcony was clearly not really expected to be used as it was small and had no furniture - maybe smokers use it.

The Okura is part of a large complex of three hotels dominated by the Galaxy which takes up a whole building. The Okura shares a building with the Banyan Tree. The ground floor is where these all come together with the casino in the middle. In Macau children are strictly forbidden from the casino areas which means that as with other hotels guests with children are penalized with a longer walk to get from one side to another. Some places like the travel ticket office are out of bounds to families because it is located within the casino area.

One of the attractions for us was the large wave pool (we had children with us) shared by the three hotels and located on the 2nd floor. This is a very good size and the kids really loved it. In front of the pool there is a sanded area giving a beach feel, this is kept very clean and there is a shallow moat area to keep the sand from the wave pool. Pool rules were diligently enforced such as only proper swim-wear was allowed into the pool, ie no swimming with a t-shirt.

The restaurants within the hotel complex are ok with a few very good ones but there is a lack of normal hotel cafe type restaurant. Consequently food prices and especially wine started somewhat high - though there is a MacDonalds. As we had a suite it included use of the Executive Lounge which provided a limited though quite adequate free breakfast. The Japanese restaurant within the Okura, Yamazato, offers an excellent tea ceremony - I didn't go but was given a very positive recommendation by those that did.

Overall as mentioned in the heading we were all happy enough with the experience that we will most probably go again - the kids would go again tomorrow if they had the chance.

we stayed in the Superior Suite room there in May 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hotel shares the casino and swimming pool with another two 5 star hotels in a complex called Galaxy. Check in for the suite guests is flawless and done separately on the 6/F, no wait time and personal attention (Mila Leong, the guest relationship manager was particularly caring with the customers and really made us feel pampered). The room is top class - spacious and with a bathroom one'd need time to explore and spend there - there's a Kohler jacuzzi, a huge steam shower room enough for a family of 4 complete with rain shower and steam, and a sauna room with a view. Curtains are electrically operated and there's a balcony too, 2 big LCD TV, etc. The only thing lacking (which I think is essential) is charger/player for iphone. Otherwise perfect. The pool is big with resort feel (sand beach) and waves generated every now and then, just a bit shallow, and lap swimmers have to go to an adjoining rectangular pool. All in all, a very good and top class hotel with matching service.

Room Tip: the suites at end of corridor are nice and quiet.

Last week I and my wife stayed at the Okura hotel superior suite. I really like the room. The decoration was elegant yet low-key, and plenty of sun-light because of the big windows and corner position. The room was very spacious with a living/dining room, bedroom, kitchen and a washroom with sauna and steam bath (woo!). It was already enjoyable just stay and rest at the room.

The attractive point of the Galaxy complex should be the Grand Deck with with huge pools and artificial beach. Good for kids but not for us who look for a relax and peaceful holiday. There is another indoor pool at the top floor of the hotel which was much much better because there rarely any guest. All go to the Grand Deck I believed, leaving us occupying the whole swimming pool. We enjoyed the amazing Japanese massage chair at the club as well.

The package included access to the Executive Lounge on 6/F for check-in, tea, cocktail and breakfast. Overall it was nice (food, decoration, service) but not impressive. My impression it is a standard offer from the hotel without much emphasis. Macau Sofitel Ponte 16 is better.

Overall a very nice stay. Btw I also got the package from travelzoo. Perhaps I was lucky - the response was quick. I got my booking 2 hours after I sent my request via email.

I stayed for one night at Okura in April. New hotel with full modern facilities. The room size is average in Macau standard but with full range of facilities and nicely furnished especaily the bathroom. It's managed by the famous Japanese hotel chain "Okura" so you will see some touch of Japanese design and hospitality.

The gym is the best part of the hotel with full range of equipments but the indoor pool is very small and with metal erosion on the side wall which make it looks very unpleasant given this hotel has just opened its door with less than a year.

The hotel guests can also use the nearby Galaxy Hotel's Wave Pool which is a super size pool on the podium with wave and sandy beach.

The breakfast is OK but consider very expensive given the range and quality of the food given.
So I may recommend to eat at the casino food mall instead.

Overall, I enjoy staying in this hotel.

Stayed at the Hotel Okura for our sons birthday--had 6 rooms on different floors..at check in and again at check out the rooms were confused with names...but in any case it was a fun place to stay....Extral large rooms with modern furnishings, international TV ,and the bathrooms with everything..hot, cold moving hot air built in bidet at different angles and pressures..dangerous for a westerner(smile)..Tv in the tub--

also a great breakfast buffet

Will clearly stay again

Room Tip: Some lower rooms have large balconies
