“A great wknd escape for HKers”
Reviewed 2 July 2012

1. "Villa"
We stayed in a two-bay/module suite which was certainly designed for the couple in mind: over-sized Japanese style soaking tub, over-sized couples shower, over-sized lounge sofa, and of course... the hot plunge pool that runs the length of the room.

2. Wave pool
Was designed for, and teaming with kids. There might be a separate adults-only pool and lounge area, but we didn't stick around to discover -- just not that kind of resort.

3. Saffron (Thai dinner)
Several service gaffes (pouring tap water into our glasses filled with Fiji water, forgetting one the entrees we ordered, waiting 15+ min for non-baked dessert). Service standards par for course, really, for Macau (though it's worth noting Four Seasons and Wynn have been able to break the mold at the high-end).

4. China Rouge
Perhaps the highlight of our stay. A truly "uniquely designed" entry sequence, moving from chamber to chamber of stellar and provocative artwork, before arriving at a cabaret-style club. Entertainment features a high-quality Taiwanese cover band and high-energy dance crew. Service was easily one of the best in all Macau, with all staff encountered being friendly & helpful, particularly the bar staff.

5. Galaxy casino
Would benefit with having a non-smoking area... not that these areas work particularly well when created as an after thought. However, the large amount of second-hand smoke consumed in the casino and carried back to our room via full permeation of our clothes and hair was completely at odds with the overall Banyan Tree experience. Maybe other Banyan Tree guests don't gamble.

6. Saffron (breakfast buffet)
Our room rate included breakfast. Nothing of particular note. I'd say investigate breakfast options at the other two hotels on property (perhaps the Okura hotel?)

Unfortunately we could not try out the spa on this trip, but maybe next time... if that's before the next shiny new resort opens in Macau.

Room Tip: Even-numbered "villas" overlook the pool deck, while odd-numbered rooms face China.

I stayed in their Spa Suite for a night and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The staffs are the greatest asset of this property and everyone I have encountered was friendly and more than helpful. Check in was smooth, got our room at around 4pm and the room was spacious and the scent of the day was “lemongrass” which was my favourite! The smell in accompany of the noise of the zen water pool was enough to put you in the spa mood, not to mention the lovely choice of music that was already playing upon us entering the room.
Order a bottle of wine, some snacks and dipped ourselves into the Jacuzzi / zen pool and watching some series / TV was enough to enjoy for the whole afternoon. At night it was time for some adrenaline gaming followed by a fantastic dinner at Belon. One high light was, I like the type of toilets they use, like Okura, they use the automatic ones which are warm when you sit down on them and have the washing function.
One incident: I left my ipod behind in their room and only realized it after 3 days. I contacted their reception to find it and within 8 hours they were able to track it down, got back to me with the details of shipping options and quotes – that was super efficient! Special thanks to *Daniel Chanteloup* from the front desk whom was the hero and I cannot express how grateful I am. Thank you once again for the help and personalized service. Mr. Orett should be proud of his team!
Pool was lovely as Banyan Tree Macau has its own pool area which felt lush and not many people were using it during my stay which was nice as it was quiet and relaxing to just lay by the pool.
I would recommend Banyan Tree for staying for sure.
Improvement points:

1. I saw an ipod dock beside the sofa area however it was not connected to the speakers and having tried many times I couldn’t get it to play my ipod anywhere in the room.
2. I personally did not like the bathing/shampoo/conditioner smell and had weird green bits in them.
3 Even in a non smoking room, it still smelled of cigarettes (quite badly) despite lighting up the scent and oil.
4. A pillow menu would have been nice.
5. Providing fresh flower petals for the bath tub would be a nice touch.

Room Tip: Spa suites have a seperate Spa toilet, in room jacuzzi and 2 x massage beds...!

the suite size, bed size, restroom facilities are excellent, especially the wooden jacuzzi tub, but the window side jacuzzi is too cool to us.

Dear valued guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on Tripadvisor following your recent stay with us.

We are pleased to read that overall you enjoyed your suite and the facilities within. The feature at the window side is our relaxation pool, rather than a Jacuzzi. It is designed to bring a pool into your suite where you can relax and unwind. The temperature is in-line with an indoor pool, however, should you wish to increase the temperature of the water slightly, simply add hot water from the faucet.

Please do let our housekeeping know your preference for a harder bed on your future visit, so that we can add more support.

Thank you for choosing Banyan Tree Macau and we look forward to welcoming you back in the not too distant future.

Yours sincerely

We took a recent Travelzoo deal for a Grand Cotai Suite and were definitely impressed by the elegant yet stunning room. It was heavenly to soak in the in-room relaxation pool. Bed was comfy and generous in size. Service was exceptional and staff were helpful. Special thanks to Front Office Manager, Mr. Carlos De Sousa, who made our stay extra special and memorable!

Room Tip: Don't miss the infinity pool on the 31st floor.

With so many hotels and casino's in Macau it can be difficult to weed through all the options. More interested in a short break from Hong Kong than gambling we opted for the Banyan Tree as the facilities looked amazing.

At first it was very difficult to secure a room but after calling back several times over 2 days a standard room became available. Once we arrived we were upgraded to their largest suite free of charge and it was with out a doubt one of the best, largest and most pimped out suites I have ever seen.

A huge relaxation/plunge pool sits in the middle of the hotel room surrounded by day beds, couches and a massive flat screen TV. Other amenities included a separate bedroom with all the modern cons, huge bathroom with traditional wooden soaking tub, duel head rain shower and a large selection of free products for his and her. My only gripe was a slightly smokey smell when we entered the room but I suggest that may have just been someone from the night before abusing the non smoking policy. (something I later did after a night on the town)

From the moment we stepped out of our car we were greeted by friendly staff which continued for the duration of the whole trip. Corona's arrived promptly to our room complete with fresh limes and our included breakfast each morning was also nice. We did have one minor problem getting the right breakfast order one morning but this was all but made up by the free champagne also provided at the buffet.

A highlight for us was a morning swim in the top floor health club. The infinity pool has views out onto Galaxy and greater Macau. While the gym didn't seem that well equipped we were more interested in the pool and Jacuzzi. The outside recreation facilities were also great but as we were so spoiled in our room we didn't have much need to investigate.

All in all this may be one of the more expensive hotels in Macau but considering the fantastic rooms and excellent service I actually found it to be great value for money. We were fortunate to get upgraded but I would still go back and try their standard room in the future. The bigger suite would also make for a fantastic party of 8-10 people, something we are working on for next time.

Room Tip: I suggest a room facing into the pool area and over to Galaxy.
