“Wonderful hotel experience at Mandarin Oriental, Macau”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2012

We spent a wonderful 4 days at the Mandarin Oriental Macau, we had a room with a great view of the river and bridges, staff were so kind, friendly and helpful at all times, all staff always remembered our names. We ate in the restaurant three out of the four nights we were there - excellent. Breakfast buffet was excellent too with so much choice. Pick up and drop off from the Ferry service was great too. Overall we were SO impressed with the staff. We also liked the fact this hotel did not have a casino but there was one next door at MGM. Only other comment we felt wifi should be free.

this is THE hotel, if you are not going to Macau for gambling, but for food and leisure, since most luxurious hotels are "equipped " with their own casino (e.g. MGM, Wynn).

Location: next to MGM makes it more convenient. There is no shuttle bus to the ferry terminal, and we had to take the shuttle of MGM (which is just next to Mandarin). Although it is near the city center, the entrance of the hotel is off a coastal road, which, if you take a taxi from Grand Lisbao, the driver must U turn from a far away place before turning to the road. Therefore we alighted at One Central, its connecting shopping mall which has an entrance facing the city center. We walked to Grand LIsbao the next day, which took us the same time as taking a taxi.

Lobby: We were quite shocked when we arrived. Is this the lobby? It was very small and simple. Just 2 counters and 2 sets of sofa. This is certainly not 5 star. Anyway it doesn't matter.

Room: good, Mandarin quality. Very impressive walk in closet just next to the doorway, which leads to the toilet. Bed is standard king size, mattress good. Bed linen, though, feels rough.
Bathroom is excellent with separate shower area and a tub.

Hotel staff: Very friendly and helpful, Mandarin standard.

This is definitely a hotel of choice if you don't gamble, not traveling with kids and don't mind to walk.

My Wife and I were at the Mandarin Oriental in Macau for her 50th birthday. Both she and I have traveled extensively our entire lives. NOTHING holds a candle to this experience.

From the time of arrival to the time of departure we were recognized by name by every staff member; my wife had a Happy Birthday tacked on to each greeting.

The spa experience was the best we had encountered, anywhere.

The dinner was nothing short of remarkable; complete with a visit from the chef that made us feel like we were the only clients he had that night.

Cake, and Champagne on the house for the moment.

We had some travel problems, and, they were very quick to solve it way beyond expectation.

Just go; You will pay a small premium but it is worth every penny.

In life you get what you pay for, and, at this property, you get an awful lot more than the norm.

Thank you Mandarin Oriental, Macau!

Yes we all like MO hotels, I have been to a few of them over the years. They are the quintessence of the perfect business hotel. Are they losing their touch though? the MO in Macau looks a bit isolated from either the casino area or the pretty old town, it is a modern business hotel with very large rooms, very well appointed. The beds are outstanding, the multimedia equipment is outstanding, everything works etc....The quality of the food also is very good compared to other places in Macau. So what, no 5 star? No, there was something missing. Maybe it is the receptionists, both on arrival and leaving, who just looks very busy and give me to many "de rigueur" smiles and polite quotes, both on arriving and leaving, or maybe it is the lack of public space to unwind and take a break, or the pool area that looks a bit soulless. I am still a fan, but this was 4 star. Not 5.

LOCATION: Less than a five minute drive from the Macau Ferry Terminal. The Mandarin Oriental provided free shuttle transportation from and to the ferry terminal. From the hotel, Grand Lisboa is less than a five minute walk away. To the main plaza, the Senado Square, you will need to walk for a good fifteen minutes.
HOTEL: In room check-in was efficient and super courteous. Bright, clean, and very good size room. Nice shower. Excellent beds and pillows. Excellent service provided by the housekeeper, the breakfast staff, the pool staff, the spa staff, the front desk staff and the bell staff. Good breakfast selection. Nice outdoor swimming pool. Fast and smooth check-out.
CONCLUSION: A very well managed hotel. Excellent staff provided friendly and courteous service. Highly recommended.
