My wife and I stayed at nearby Byron apartments (see my review). As we had no car and Tigaki is 2km away, further than either of us pensioners care to walk, it was handy that Ampeli was a five minute walk away with a short cut into the rear of the restaurant saving a circuitous walk to the front!
I'd seen other favourable reviews on this website so was happy to try it out. Over a 4 week stay we visited twice as a couple and twice with Greek friends.
Every single visit was a total success. Because the menu is based around what is the most extensive mezes menu I have ever seen plus an adequate though not extensive list of main dishes, it is really easy to make up a varied and tasty meal and as many of the mezes are vegetable based, a vegetarian could have a field day here.
What we consumed over the four visits would take far to long to list but between us we tried an extensive range of the mezes and my wife twice had spaghetti with mince which she enjoyed. The pork bekri meze was preferred to the chicken variety, which is less spicy. The beetroot cooked with garlic was popular at every meal. We also enjoyed - well, everything actually! There was not a single disappointment.
Staff were friendly, food was brought to the table in a timely fashion and, for the quality and quantity of what we ate, prices were quite reasonable. The restaurant's own wine deserves a mention too.
I cannot praise the quality of the food highly enough and we will certainly make a point of visiting again when we are next in Kos.
