“what an Island !!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2008

our room was excellent - number 152 although it couldnt have been further away from main hotel, but we had a car (the receptionist did check we had !!) and we loaded the car and drove the the pool !! wonderful room, almost new, full bathroom with shower screen and fully tiled with hairdryer. Big sette and plenty of room....and with amazing and beautiful sea views across to Zante and what must be mainland Greece. Yes some rooms have a huge step climb to get to, but if you have a car there are plenty of little spots to park at up the hill..................well, its a mountain really !!!!
We booked this as an independant holiday and got a bargain at £111 for the room B & B for a week, through Thomson and booked flights with excel at £296. If you have a car it is worth looking as we saved alot on this, total holiday with insurance £430 thats for 2 people and not each...

Hotel is excellent , clean and tidy, with great well stocked bar by pools. Snack bar sold salad and the usual snacky stuff....... Pools lovely with plenty of sun beds and sea views from all the terraces. Internet and snax and small shop, all faultless. Only draw back was the restaurant - we booked table at 8.00pm and by 8.50 still no sign of the starter !! The guys are running around but men just dont multi task as well as us ladies (well ok some do !!) so the service was very slow. But with the glorious sea views - it wasnt a major problem. But go to Skala (book the mini bus of the hotel early, we heard many people being told it was full) and eat at the many tavernas. Greeks eat late, so arriving at 9.45 wasnt unusal at all...........Kefalonia is an island we married on last year and this was our 5th trip. It is beautiful, rugged, laid back and typically Greek, but tourism is number 1 so expect tourists to be catered for, but if u search u can still find real Greece.
Suggested car hire through Greekstones, no credit card needed - paid at airport and no exceses which is really good...............try the road from Poros to Sami, then continue to Agia Efima and then to Fiskardo, but steep in places, a bit hairy !!! but so rural and this is real Kefalonia with small mountain villages and the views to Ithacka are truly breathtaking...... Best beaches are Lassi for sand or north of Sami for small white pebbles. All in all the most wonderful holiday. enjoy.

  • Liked — clean and new and spacious
  • Disliked — on a steep steep hill and long walk without a car !!

Just returned from a fantastic holiday staying at the San Giorgio. This is a really nice hotel - the rooms were spotless and well-maintained. There are 3 swimming pools and plenty of sunbeds.

We had booked an 'inland' view but were allocated a sea view on arrival. I'm not sure that there were any rooms without a nice view!

We were a group of 4 (2 couples) and we had one bed and breakfast room and one self catering apartment. To be honest the breakfast at the hotel was nothing special, and the SC apartment room was twice as big. The breakfast room didn't have a kettle, which could be hired for 3 euros a day. It also had a much smaller fridge. So I would definitely recommend the self catering option.

The hotel is 3km from the town of Skala which was about 30-40 mins walk. The hotel has a free minibus, and the taxi ride cost 5 euros.

The only negative about our holiday was the coach transfer to the hotel. We flew from Bristol with Olympic Holidays, and the coach seemed to stop at every hotel on the island - getting to Skala last. As a result, the transfer took 2.5 hours, to drive straight there only takes 45 minutes.

Kefalonia is a beautiful island - I highly recommend it!

My husband and I have just come back from a week at San Giorgio, and what a week! We just wanted a chilled and relaxed time, and that was exactly what we got.I cannot praise this place enough. It was clean, food was lovely, staff polite and friendly, views to die for, entertainment low key, pools immaculate, and plenty of sun beds!!!!! The walk in to Skala was a great way to end any afternoon, ( or start a day), as long as not too hot, though there where always plenty of taxis if needed or free hotel mini bus. The only thing I can say in anyway negative was that a week just was not enough! Lynne x

The San Georgia is a great place to stay. The reception staff are very helpful and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble.
Our room was very clean and the linen and towels were changed regularly. The air-conditioning was free of charge and very welcome after a day in the sun.
The breakfast was of the continental variety with cereals honey toast croissants etc.
The village of Scala is a good 45 minute walk away following the coast road. If you prefer to save your legs, reception will ring for a taxi (5euros) which is well worth it!
Scala is a typical greek village totally unspoilt with lots of tavernas and bars to visit. There isn't any discos so the evenings are quiet and relaxed.
I can recommend The Planes taverna, the staff and food are first class.
We went on the Island Tour which is very good giving you a chance to visit attractions in other parts of the island you visit a wine factory, a monastery, and then travel on to the Dragonari Cave and Messonghi Lake which is spectacular! The tour then takes you north to Fiskardo where you can sit and watch the fabulous yachts anchored in the bay.

We also went on the three island tour which takes in Skorpios the island owned by the Onassis family and then on to Lefkas for lunch.
We were unfortunately caught up in the aftermath of the earthquake which hit mainland Greece while we were in Kefalonis the knock on effect was that the airport was closed, which caused us an 18 hour delay to our flight home! We travelled with Olympic Holidays who supplied us with refreshments and an overnight stay we flew home the following day.
Kefalonia in June is wonderful all the spring flowers are at their best, and the crowds have not yet arrived.
I can thoroughly recommend Skala for a relaxing break.

Just returned from from a weeks holiday at the San Giorgio.
Rooms were very clean and maid cleaned every day. All rooms have a balcony overlooking the sea and the rooms flood with sunlight in the mornings as they point to the east. Just right for having an early morning breakfast if you are self catering.
Apparently the breakfast option is not worth it so you would be better off self catering.

The whole complex is very clean and the three pools are spotless.
As the hotel is built on a slope you have to walk up a lot of stairs to reach your accommodation. If you have trouble walking this would not be the place for you. Also it is a good 40 minute walk into Skala.
There is a mini bus that you can get but you have to book it on the day that you want it. A lot of the time it was fully booked. If you like walking as we do you can get a cab back to the hotel for 5 Euros.

I can honestly recommend the San Giorgio and would definitely return.
