The room was adequate for an overnight stay, the bed linen was clean but tired. The en-suite shower was hot and powerful but there was a lot of mildew on the grouting. There was a high step up from the bedroom into the en-suite. Breakfast and service was very good.

Comfortable guest house, run by friendly owner. Very good value for money, would recommend if you want a good, basic guesthouse. The rooms are a decent size and are clean, Breakfast was very good, made to order so you have a bit of a wait but worth waiting for!

Room tip: Not all rooms en suite, there is a single room (good size) with bathroom close by, but it is solely for the use of the room so not a problem. Although guest house was on main road, it was fairly quiet

In summary, it's a perfectly adequate B&B but it's not somewhere I would rush back to or necessarily recommend as a first choice to a friend. In comparison to other places we'd stayed in cycling the end to end (the day before and after) it was over priced on the quality/ value for money scale.

The hosts were lovely, welcoming and friendly, but the rooms were just a bit tired, for example the curtains weren't hung properly, the window was wedged with a bit of paper, and there were some small marks on the bedspread. The ensuite was tiny and again could have done with a spruce up (also no shower gel etc). Breakfast was ok, but could have been a bit quicker.

With a few small improvements this could be a much better B&B, as it's a lovely location and the dining room is decorated with a nice and modern feel which could be represented in the rooms. Just a few small things that could make a huge improvement.

I stayed at The Blue Mantle on a number of occasions whilst working locally, the rooms are nicely decorated, and of a good size for a B&B, breakfast is made to order which although takes a little longer means it is nice and hot when served. The hostess is wonderful and was very happy to help with anything I needed. The only down side is that there isn't any free wifi available which in this day and age is a little disappointing, with the only access being via a BT Openzone. Although there is no parking there was often a space on the road right outside to drop off bags, and a car park just across the road which only costs £2.30 a day. The rooms at the front of the B&B were a little noisy, especially at the weekend, but the rooms towards the back were very quiet. All in all a great little B&B, that I wouldn't hesitate in revisiting if I was in the area. On another note if you're looking for somewhere to eat look up The Dolphin, it's just down the road and does amazing food!

This B&B was booked at the last minute, we were supporting our son and partner as they cycled from John O'Groats to Lands End. Wellington was directly on their route. The Landlady could not have been more helpful in clearing a space to ensure bicycles were secure overnight. Rooms were quite small, but adequate for a short overnight stay, parking on the street outside the B&B. Beds very comfortable, but a slight musty smell. Breakfast (full English) was good but slow to arrive - given the fact that the cyclists wanted to get off this was a slight frustration for them. Rooms overlooked the main street but not a problem.
