Owner description: Rio Safari Elche is an animal park situated between Santa Pola and Elche, in Costa Blanca. It is located in an oasis with more than 4000 palm trees. A good place for families and children. Visitors can enjoy a nice journey and relax. Enjoy Splash Park, the new water park of Rio Safari Elche with two pools, toboggans, water falls... Open during summer. Riding in pony or dromedary, a bath with sea lions or interaction with lemurs are other activities people can do at Rio Safari Elche.

After much research without a car, we caught train from Alicante to Elche Parq and called Radio Taxis to get to Rio Safari- there is no direct train or bus and is 11km outside of town. Did end up costing more to travel there and back than entry fee.

Safari park itself was very quiet, some good exhibits, some so-so. Felt several animals were overcrowded in too small spaces but overall the animals looked well fed and ok. Train safari about 20 mins, 3 shows 15-25 mins (parrots, mixed small animals and sea lions) and you can pay to have photos taken after each show.
Overall enjoyed the day.

This zoo is an amazing day out. Entry is well priced but can be cheaper if you can pick up one of the discount leaflets in town.

The layout is very well laid out which allows excellent close up views of the animals. The safari ride is an opportunity to get extremely key close to the wild African animals.

The lemur enclosure allows them to climb all over you to get great photo opportunities.

One of the best Zoos I’ve ever been to

Very impressed with everything about this facility. You can easily spend a day here. Admission is not overly expensive and lets you into the Safari facility for the day, including free access to animal shows and safari rides.

Obviously there is a lot of controversy about zoos and about wild animals being kept in cages- at Rio Safari, however, it feels like the animals welfare is consistently put first and their habitats are reflective of that. Additionally, the various shows- about the sea-lions, the birds, and the menagerie- are all informational: not about the animals doing tricks, but informing the public about the individual animals and what they can do. I was really surprised and impressed by this! There's also a chance to meet the animals at the end, and you can tell that all of the keepers are really passionate about the animals.

Also, at each of the shows and during the safari, the keepers will speak in both English and Spanish, suitable for a diverse audience!

The safari itself is well laid out and accessible for all, and there are snack outlets all around the safari, as well as a restaurant outside. On the grounds there is also a small waterpark (closed for the winter) and a racing track- this we did visit and the staff were super friendly, although it is slightly expensive- 15EU for 8 minutes.

Overall, I would definitely recommend a visit here- it would be easy to spend a day here, especially with younger children, and the safari park is clearly dedicated to the animals and their welfare, and this definitely comes through in the running of the park. Congrats to the staff of the park for such an amazing job at running the park!

Great place for any age and a great place to get up face to face with the animals - shows are good for the kids and adults alike with English translations
