My wife and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary (well, belated...) at the Hyatt Zilara in Montego Bay. It was great to have some alone time without the kids and relax at a beautiful resort. Despite it not being a true adults-only resort (since you had to use the Ziva/kids side to eat), the experience was outstanding and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

The great stay begins at the airport. The resort has a welcome lounge and a free shuttle to make the short drive to the resort. So easy. They even offer you a drink while you're waiting. Everyone was helpful and friendly... that was constant throughout the trip.

At the hotel, we were able to get into our suite even though it was only noon local time. The person checking us in at the hotel gave us a "newspaper" for the day which showed the activities/times and what was going on for entertainment and at the restaurants. She also gave us a schedule of which restaurants were open for dinner for the entire week. Super helpful.

The suite was beautiful... the bed faced the ocean so we were able to start our day each day with a great view. We had a junior suite... it was enormous. A great bathroom/shower and bed. Pillows were bad but nothing's perfect. We didn't have any liquor in the room but there were a few beers, sodas, waters, and snacks. Plus you could order room service 24 hours per day so you were never without in the room.

We're pool people so we spent most of our time sitting/drinking at the pool. The beach was rocky (as reported) but plenty of people were enjoying the beach/ocean. There was a bar in the pool and a server coming around for drinks. You were never thirsty. And don't worry about watered down drinks... never happened.

The restaurants were a mixed bag... to be expected. The odd thing was we were always impressed with breakfast and lunch but disappointed with dinner. Definitely stop at the Jerk Chicken Shack... so good. There was also a small restaurant by the pool which had skewers of different meats which were great appetizers. We never ate at the buffets... nothing every looked that appealing when we would check it out. Instead, we rotated through the lunch restaurants and always was satisfied. We tried out the French, Italian, and Brazilian places... each were fine but we've had much better meals in Chicago.

Each night we skipped the live entertainment and enjoyed drinks at the various bars. It was the off-season so nothing was ever busy... which is good because it was always easy to get a drink/attention/a seat but bad as there wasn't always a great atmosphere. The lone exception was the sports bar which was open the latest, showed live US sports (MLB, NFL, college football) and also served as a dance club late at night. We went each night after the other places closed and enjoyed ourselves.

Thank you to the Hyatt Zilara for a great experience... we'll never forget it. Definitely recommend if you don't need a true adults-only experience in Jamaica that's convenient to MBJ.

Room tip: The suites are in the new section... pony up the cash, it's worth it.

Our expectations were far exceeded. We were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We requested an oceanfront Butler suite. I think we may have had the best suite in the resort. Room 1547. Top floor, corner room, huge terrace, two full bathrooms, big living room and bedroom. Very quiet, comfortable and clean. Our trio of butlers really enhanced our experience. Jodi, Joshayne and Tarrick. The service the three provided was above and beyond what we expected. On our anniversary, Jodi, set up a beautiful beachfront cabana for us. Decorated with balloons, swans, and even a "Happy Anniversary," sign. We had a cooler filled with whatever our hearts desired so for me that meant Champagne. She even got us a mid day snack of shrimp cocktail. Then for our dinner, Tarrick drove us via golf cart to the French Restaurant where we had an amazing dining experience. Starting with our outstanding waiter, Roan. He recommended the martinis. The dirty martini was super cold and delicious. Also we had a great corner table decorated with rose petals. I highly recommend the scallops for an appy and the salmon for the main. As if our day had not been spectacular enough, Tarrick had put candles, battery operated, rose petals, swans, a bottle of champagne and cake on our bed. We were blown away by his service. Truly Jodi and Tarrick made our anniversary so special and memorable. There are lots of dining options. My favorite was definitely the French. The jerk chicken and pork shack is a must! The pool is spacious and multi-tiered. The chaise lounges very comfortable with plenty of umbrellas. We really enjoyed the diversity of the vacationers. All ages, races and a few same sex couples. Everyone was having a great time! My only regret is that we had to leave and could not take our butlers with us!!!!
