We went to the Iberostar Beach hotel from Feb.25th, to March 3rd, and the overall experience was fabulous.
If you are travelling t Jamaica for the first time then you should be going with an open mind. I read some reviews where they speak about weed being offered and the men all over the women, but I would like to defend this manner. My friend and I travelled together 2 single women, yes we were approached if we wanted ganja, not only at the hotel, but the airport, the beach the market the hotel, everywhere, it is a way of life. As well the men are very flirtatious and you do not have to be '' a desperate white girl'' as mentioned by a previous advisor, the animators at the hotel are flirtatious, but they are doing their job and trying to make you feel welcome and have a great time, they were just as flirtatious with the 50 year old and 75 year old women and men.... remember no problem in Jamaica...
Now as for the hotel:
Food was amazing plenty of choices in the morning and in the afternoon there were 2 buffets the main buffet that is located close to the pool, this buffet at lunch is open from 1-3pm and it had more options for food at lunch, therefore if you were not in the mood for hamburgers or hot dogs, they had a pasta and pizza section as well as other grilled meats and of course either Jerk chicken or Jerk pork. The other lunch buffet is located closer to the water centre, this had a smaller buffet, with your salads and hamburger hot dogs as well as your grilled chicken and pork, this buffet is open from 11-5pm...
Supper, there is the main buffet which has a wide variety and sometimes theme nights for instance Italian night, Mexican night etc... as well there are 3 speciality restaurants... the Japanese, which if you get a good chef he can put on a great show for you, as well as the Cajun restaurant that has some good sea food, and the steak house, which I must say has a great choice of meat and it was tasty.
The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable, they restock the fridge every other day and I have no complaints, the AC worked wonderfully. I was located in room 1454 which is on the fifth floor in the front of the hotel, the balcony was on the side of the hotel and to my left I could see the beach and in front the forest. In all honesty I do not understand the emphasis on needing a beach front view as any room gives you the view and how much time do you really need to spend on your balcony.
The staffs were always helpful and ready to help out. Polite and always ready to offer is drinks. The hotel lobby has some great bar tenders... try the French kiss drink it’s a citreous sweet drink. As well if you find the bar a little crowded just take a seat and a waitress will come and serve you.
The animation team... ahhhh, I can honestly say that they really work hard at what they do and in making you feel welcome. They try hard in their shows, keep in mind this is not las Vegas but really hard workers, the dancing is amazing.. Speaking of the dancing again please have an open mind, Jamaican dancing is very sexual and there are times where you may think you are watching a mating ritual, but in all honesty it was fun to watch and real laugh as well. The animation team work hard from 9am to 12am a full day. They do not only go after the women but will come sit with you and speak and play with your kids and family. They will dance with you.
The hotel offers a free shuttle at 10 and 11pm to Margaretville in Mobay, the shuttle brings you back at either 1 or 2am. Go to margaritaville, you are with other tourists and locals and they bring dancing to a whole different level. Margaretville is open to all people over 18, and yes we saw plenty of people over 40 as well, and in fact a family went together.
The grounds at the hotel are spotless working constantly. We did go see the Suits and Grand side, The suits has a bigger pool area as well a nice kids centre and the grand was adults only and extremely quite.
We did 3 excursions
The Catamaran Duns River Falls- We went by catamaran to the falls, climbed and then had a cruise on the catamaran that her rum and beer, great experience paid 119$ from 10 to 5pm had a fabulous time and cannot complain.
Negril Day trip
10-7pm 45$left for Negril we had 3 hours on the beach, not this is a great beautiful beach it truly is wow and you have to see the 7 mile stretch, after we also had a stop at the famous Rick's cafe watched the cliff divers and the sunset back on the bus and back to the hotel.
6pm to 9pm- 66$
Really not worth it, for 3 hours and you have to have a good night to really see the glowing water.
All in All a great vacation no complaints if you have a complaint like people flirting or offering ganja please remember keep an open mind. You just smile and say thank you but no and they respond with no problem... they are not forceful or harassing. Some people need to just relax, that what you’re on vacation for.
If you go, have a great vacation and get to know the animation team, Lady Tremor (ask why she is lady tremor you will be in awe), Lava Child, Lady Spice, Smiley, and MegaTron... they will make you vacation by bringing you the fun.
