“Breathtaking experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2012

First things first: Make sure you walk up to the Tiffin Top!! The true worth and beauty of this place can only be realised if you walk up the stretch! The entire stretch is around 5-6 kms of walking up and getting down to the same point - Bara Patthar. (Not advised for elder people or groups with kids).
There are 2 dhabas on the top where you can have some food. Enroute you'll also come across Land's End, Lover's Point.

“Go by horse”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2012

Took a horse ride to Tiffin Top. Poor horses, some struggled under the weight of us larger sized Americans. Fun experience. Great view of the lake below. Not too much to do at the top.

“good view point...of nainital”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 April 2012

A hitch hike on the horse back....the ride towards the tiffin top has to be undertake on horse back...the charges may vary according to your bargaining powers...we ended up paying 650.00 per head. though it was Off season (March end).
the money is worth considering the effort put in by the horseman.

the view is very nice from the top...

“An enjoyable trek!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2012

Tiffin Top or Dorothy’s Seat is located at an altitude of nearly 2300 feet and 4 Kms from town. It’s an enjoyable half day trek through Cedar and Oak cloaked Ayarpatta Hills. The top commands a panoramic view of Nainital and, on clear days, snow capped Himalayan range.

How to reach
The more enjoyable way is to walk. There are paved paths to the top. However, the covering earth has been washed away at many places exposing uneven rocks, which makes walking a bit difficult. But the verdant surroundings and crisp breeze more than makes up for the inconvenience. The Top can be approached via Ayarpatta, Bara Pather, Sherwood College and Lands End. The climb can be pretty steep at stretches. So take ponies if going with young kids or elderly.

Ponies are available from Bara Pather and can be booked at the Flats itself. They access the top via Lands End and return to Bara Pather from Ayarpatta. The time given at the top is limited, i.e. around 15-20 minutes only.

There is a motorable road up to Sherwood College, from where the Top is around 2 Kms. The parking at the small level field at the college gate is limited and the incline, from Governor’s House road to college, steep.

There is no toilet facility on way or at the top, unless one is prepared to use the thick undergrowth of the forest. Avoid Nettles!

Mobile connectivity is available almost throughout.

Things to do
There are a few stalls selling tea, coffee, bottled water, Pakoras and other snacks at the top. Enjoy hot ginger tea with Maggi Noodles (a staple snack of Uttarakhand) in cool breeze, gazing at the majestic Victorian building of Governor’s House, Golf Fields, Saint Josephs College and the town. The Coffee served at these stalls is avoidable.

Rappelling facility is available.

There is a small Deodar (Himalayan Cedar) copse close to the Tiffin Top (on way to Sherwood College) with level field. It’s ideal for a picnic.

Click photographs. Don’t forget carry a spare battery pack!

Tiffin Top is a better place than the popular Snow View, which is more commercialised and crowded, thanks to the Rope Way and motorable road.

“A Blissful Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 December 2011

Dorothy Seat in the beautiful lake hillstation of Naini Tal in Uttarakhand is popularly known as 'Tiffin Top' by the locals and guides. Its the highest spot in Naini Tal and the winding road up to the spot is worth the trek and if you have difficulty in walking then take a horse.
When you go there ensure that you have some eatables and water bottle although all is available enroute. With your camera and non-skit sports shoes to walk in the gravel and rock path, you will pass through lovely pine trees, and hear the birds.
From the top of the spot the whole panorama is just awesome. With the North Indian plains expanse on one side to the lovely hills and the oval shaped lake resort of Naini Tal below you. Its a complete day's picnic and many lovely pics can be clicked by your digicam. Its advisable to take the uphill walk after a hearty breakfast and return by early evening.
I am sure you will relish and get one of the best views from the top.
