good hotel with a warmth of the hills.

Has the advantage of being right in front of the lake. You will almost feel like on the mall road. Spent ur evening with a cup of hot tea in the balcony enjoying the view of the lake and the happening mall road.
Good cozy rooms.
Ample parking space is another advantage. You have good food joints just next to the hotel.
People on the streets seemed jealous of us sitting in the balcony that evening. Not all hotels have there own parking space on the mall road. The Grand has.

the hotel has nice flower beds around.

My family has been a repeat patron of grand hotel as we visit Nainital every couple of years and this is the only place we have ever stayed for the fast 25 years!
Anazing Location in the mall road,Right opposite the club and the lake, comfortable rooms and great food with a homely feel to it.What more could a vacationer ask for.
It is a definite plus for families and is quite affordable.Although you might not find five star amenities like LCD and a plush bathroom and central heating. The quality of service is definitely 5 star!

Room Tip: First floor rooms have a better view.Try to get rooms near the balconies so that you can enjoy an outdoor breakfast.

I had booked this hotel for 1 night and unfortunately due to Car breakdown, we could reach nainital only by 6 in the evening. The worst part is that they told point blank that we should check-out the next morning by 10 AM. They said this is normal practice in Nainital. I requested that since we have just checked in at 6 PM, allow us to checkout at least by 12 noon as our train at Kathgodam was only at 15:45. They didn't oblige and started knocking on the door at 10 and showing room to other guests who is walking into the room and straight away going to bathroom to check. I felt the staff is not at all friendly and quite arrogant. But the biggest USP is its like a heritage hotel right opp to the lake and offering excellent view.

Management response:Responded 14 July 2012

Guests must realise that a check out time must be respected so that the hotel has the time to prepare the room for the next guest, many of whom arrive early in the morning. The guest was offered a left-luggage facility, which he availed of, as well as use of our beautiful lake-facing Lounge.

As for showing the room to someone else, we don't see how that is possible since the room was reserved for the next guest, someone who has stayed in the same room for the last ten years on all his stays with us, and is highly unlikely to have wanted to suddenly felt the need to "check it".

4 of us ie 2 couples travelled in the month of april 2011 to nainital. The best part about nainital is the huge lake around which the hill city is surrounded and the mall road which runs parellally along the lake.

The Grand is situated right in the middle of mall road, which makes it just a few minutes walk from the tibetian market and also the fact that mall road kept buzzing upto 10.30 pm at night, it was fun to just to walk down for shopping or to have a scoop of ice cream.
The view of lake from the hotel was simply amazing and it was all the more fun to sit down sipping a cuppa tea in the morning enjoying the serene beauty of the lake.
As it was right next to the lake we needed to just walk down the hotel to take a stroll along the lake or have a boating ride or sit comfortably enjoying the lakes beauty.
The staff and the manager were courteous and made all the efforts to make the stay comfortable and to guide u thru the site seeing.
The atmosphere at night was chilling, however heaters werent available, and we were offered hot water bottles.
We paid around 2500 odd per night for the room without lounge, however there were larger rooms also which contained a lounge and equivalent sized bedroom.
We didnt take food at the hotel, but just besides the grand is hotel nanak a multi cuisine restaurant which serves wonderful variety of chinese, fast food, punjabi, etc to name a few. The food was amazing and value for money.
