Good place to spend Time in Solace.
The estate is too good. Intially we had planned to spend 2 nights but we liked it so much that we extended the stay by another day.
Food is just Like home cooked.
Staff is very friendly.
You feel like home away from Home
Had even gone for Night trekking

Spent 6 nights at Jilling estate by myself. A thoroughly different experience from the usual resort life. Its about a 1 hour climb up a nice track (and a lovely guide called Ramlalji) upto the family home and cottages. Nanda Devi was elusive for all other than day 1. But the views and walks are lovely. If you like solitude, books to read, a lovely family that shares their home and love of animals/ forests with you and well cooked home like Indian food, this is the place for you. Away from the tourists, groups and pollution that is so often seen in hill stations in India. On the negative side , bathrooms are basic, no hot running water, and there is often electricity cuts.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Settled in the middle of nowhere, Jilling Estate has been nurtured by the Lall Family for over half a century. The family has almost single-handedly, with the help of local village-folk, preserved the estate’s nearly 100 acres of forests, farmlands, and orchards in an untouched manner. Over the years, the family has planted a variety of trees and has closely guarded the forests- from wild fires and poachers alike- sometimes risking their own lives, so future generations may cherish what it feels like to be at Jilling. The estate is around a 45-minute moderate trek from the road, with songbirds for company along the way. An astronomer’s calling, a bird-watcher’s paradise, and a haven for dog lovers, the family has 5 dogs, which also double up as watchdogs for the estate. In addition, the estate has its own cattle used for ploughing the terraces, producing fresh milk, and providing organic manure for the fields. Fresh home-cooked meals comprise of estate-grown seasonal vegetables. ... more   less
